how are you even supposed to capture stonebills?
like ive managed to catch three of them out of complete luck but ive tried just about everything from throwing rocks to setting down meat and killing wildlife to see if theyd eat it.

ive seen countless crowns of them but they always pearch just out of reach of my net and i can never get them

am i missing something or is there some sort of secret method to getting them?

What is the ghilie mantle...

Could try a flash pod, I suppose. I have seen those birds flying around but I haven't made any attempts to catch 'em yet. Maybe you need to sit on the back of your Raider Rider for that little bit of extra reach.

what is reading the actual post and seeing that getting close isnt the problem as much as reaching them with the net is...

What about bait? Do they come down and feast on a piece of meat bait or slain creature like a Revolture does?

If not, then I guess you probably need to find the location they perch and chill out, or even maybe you require specific weather conditions?

Based on this reddit post, you run to an area with stonebills, equip ghillie mantle, and sit still until they land. Trying to capture them midair is apparently fruitless.

Side note: Capcom not adding a white ice and snow based Ghillie mantle called the Chillie Mantle has completely ruined my Iceborne experience.

i mean... possibly? ive tried meat, that doesnt work. neither does dead animals. dead monsters /might/ im not sure. i tried once and they came down but i havent really killed any monsters since. just cause i like getting more mats from captures.

idk really. they just kinda pearch anywhere. they are comman like revoltures, they're just hard to reach with your net.

even when they land, the majority of the time they land so far up somewhere your net just doesnt reach

I had so much trouble trying to catch these for the crowns as well but I figured out the trick by accident. Turns out, much like revoltures, stonebills are in fact carrion feeders though they may be somewhat picky. What you do is go to the hot springs at area 13 and make an unfortunate but necessary sacrifice of a cortos. Make sure not to carve it and wait a moment or so. You should have up to six stonebills coming down to pick at the corpse. You don't need to crouch or use the ghillie mantle to avoid spooking them so just net away. They'll completely ignore you even if you miss and the net lands right next to them making it easy to scoop up all six. They respawn quick too so if you didn't get what you needed, just run away for a minute and come back to rinse repeat.

The guiding lands has one thats easy to catch. It's on the left wall in the area 17 of the tundra region.

Weird angle for the net though...

You can catch one easily in the Hoarfrost reach in the little corridor south of the yellow sulphurous area with all the hotsprings and stuff. There's one pretty much guaranteed to land on a branch just next to the second drop after you head south from the area.

I don't remember the zone numbers, unfortunately. Just look for the yellowly sulphurous area and go like, south into the area with the thick snow. Use a ghillie mantle, you'll catch one very fast.

Unless it's been changed anyway, but back in the day I used it to capture the crown sizes of them by just leaving and returning.

You got me at Chillie Mantle. Jokes aside, I wish we had specific camo for specific environments. Capcom did so much for immersion but they forgot such a simple detail.

Maybe in World 2? :evilhero:

I can confirm that this works and is probably the most efficient way to catch a bunch of them at once. Kill a cortos in the sulfur springs area and wait for the stonebills to fly down and peck at the corpse. Very useful tip!

A bit late, but you're a legend. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get them and this made it so easy.
