"Nergigante is a dragon with a bristly appearance." (A dragon, okay...)
Wiki also says...
"Nergigante has fairly advanced forelimbs and can use them to swipe at the hunter in an almost human-like way." (A human like way you say...)
I'd say that Nergigante is some kind of Dragon that resembles a heavily modified lion with features of various other animals we have in our reality???
What do you think? Does he look more like a dog or a lion or a kangaroo? I can't really say.
Lore-wise, it reproduces asexually, the spikes it's breaks off being able to grow into new nergigantes if they absorb enough bioenergy; reproduction like this is very much a trait of sea stars as well
This. For me it looks "similar" to a cat, trying to stay clean :)
By the way, use the ghillie mantle and watch him and his animations from close. He is really well designed.
I think cats appear to be the primary inspiration, what with him batting at hunters, the paw pads, and the grooming animations. However Nergi's stance is very much not cat-like (to be fair there are other examples like Legiana where the monster's skeleton kinda lets down the ecological lore side) and there's definitely a lot of other exotic features that distance it from the cat base.
I don't really see Nergigante being a tiger or inspired from any kind of cat in particular, though, and the cat inspiration is pretty removed from the monster as a whole.
