Some rare ores, plants or fish spawn under certain circumstances. These circumstances usually include day/night requirement and upsurge requirements. You also usually need to go way out of your way to get some canteen ingredients or some rare endemic creatures. Some rare fish are hidden in secret ponds, and ores/plants that are canteen materials are hidden underground or in mountains.
The only thing you can keep track of is the endemic life you captured. You can check it by going to your room and trying to place pets. It will show you what you captured so far.
Your best bet is checking what material is where when collecting canteen materials (likely in some wiki). I love exploring myself but some stuff is either hidden too well or have several layers of RNG to spawn.
the 'uncommon fish/plan/ore' are just time and luck you can get anywhere, where the actual "rare spawn" one have special spawn location and condition, you can use those investigation that have the condition just to do gathering without hunting the main target.
Extra gather are nothing but extra points.
So just see what food you haven't unlock, then google the food and ingredient condition
I wish I could have just know if i have completed all the endemic and gathering in an area so I don't rely on wiki and rush it.
