The thread itself is pointless... it's literaly someone asking for "help" because he have an item and he cant control himself enouth no to use it, then say it's the dev fault...
Since he has gone on nexus by now i would bet he downloaded cheat, beacause "they are there so i cant not use them" and then he will say that the modder are bad people because they creat mod...
There is a reason OP is concerned, and I wholeheartedly understand him. The entire thing is on a psychological level. Humans have an innate desire to use the most effective methods and/or tools available to them. You can resist it, but the thought of wanting to use a much better tool will haunt you unless you remove the said tool or make it useless.
Self-control will only stop you from using the gear. It won't stop you from seeing it in your inventory every time you open it, thinking "maybe I should use that to make it easier". Removing the object of temptation/distraction is more effective than trying to ignore it.
Defender gear is practically cheats provided by the devs themselves to skip a big chunk of their own game. Who in their right mind gives the players a way to skip almost half of their game? It's a flawed design choice that does astronomically more harm than it does good.
Either way, this thread will devolve into "bashing Defender gear" so I'll take my leave.
The Defender gear was added shortly after Iceborne's release so that new players could hop into the new content (where all the good stuff was) faster.
That's literally it.
Interesting thoughts, but I disagree. When I was new to the game and saw how strong those items are, my personal conclusion was simple:
- Enjoy the story and all new content solo and the way it was meant to be played.
- Use multiplayer only to replay repetitive content, where all noobs like me used the kickstarter gear.
So, it really only was an issue for multiplayer, and as a consequence of that, vanilla MHW was essentially a singleplayer game for me with a social debug mode :DIs that a reason to complain? Absolutely not, I enjoyed the ride and dived into the proper multiplayer experience once I reached the end game content of Iceborne.
Not being able to stop ones self from using the defender armor isn't an issue with the armor, it's a personal failing.
People need to learn some damn self control.
The story is a bit different for some games. In Dark Souls titles, there are multiple factors to this. Gear requirements, gear availability and gear utility are a few. In terms of all three aspects I gave as examples, Defender gear is permanently available, far surpasses what you can craft and has really decent skills that boost your survivability to a great extent. It also has no requirements to use or obtain.
In Monster Hunter World, especially at the start, you practically have armor made of paper, so seeing the stupidly strong armor and weapons in your bag every time you check your storage (for any reason) distracts you from the natural "weaker" progression the game offers.
Out of sight, out of mind. You can have enough self-control to not use it, but not seeing it or rendering it useless will distract you far less than ignoring it. As I said before, removing the object of temptation/distraction is far more effective than pretending it does not exist. OP has enough self-control and willpower to ask how to get rid of it so he doesn't have to be reminded of it as he progresses.
It's called self control. Just don't use it.
