Weapon skins are so disappointing
It is the biggest shame that they did not take the time to create weapon assets. They all look the same from the base bone and iron. So even after dealing with getting through all the weapons that look the same, there is some bad design with the later tier weapons.

Will there be mod support for weapon skins? It is such a glaring issue.

I assume they had a tight deadline but a really large attraction my mates and I had to this game, were unique awesome weapons. Really seems like the mark was missed.

It is really nice to see a visual progression and varity in weapons that fit the style of the monsters you're hunting to craft them.

What are your thoughts?

If you look at previous gaes in the series, you will notice the amazing designs. The designs for MHW are reskins of the base weapons. Really lacks interest in progressing.

then don't. but differen't is different, they literally do not look the same
The main problem with the weapon skins in MHW (and take this from someone who has been using them for over 300+ hours on console) is that they all take the base model and kind of... add bits ontop of them. If you have a fur-covered monster it will get a recolour to parts of the weapon and fur along part of it, for example. Compared to weapons such as the Gore Magala or Seregios weapons from MH4/MH4U, they are very dissappointing. The game as a whole thankfully, is still pretty great. Post-launch weapons have been a bit more exciting, so they seem to be listening to feedback.

They do look the same, you can upgrade 4 times with the same skin weapon.

I agree Post-launch weapons have been taken care of which is really great. A skin workshop would be great, even if it is just for the user side to see. I understand it is fr too late to change the majority of weapons to what would e acceptable.
Its a shame though. Different weapons skin mean that weapon is exclusive for you, and give us reward feelings

I agree mate. <3
I think hey needed all their money and time to get the monsters and environments right and had not much left for the weapon designs afterwards. (The monsters animations were made with motion capture)
It was like a huge experiment and a huge risk at the same time for them and they didnt even think it would become so popular.

Dont think modding will be possible. First its a game that has a strong online-component and second they would need to release a mod-kit what they will never do.
Im also not sure if modding would be seen as disrespectful to a japanese developer.

I feel like they just went with a more realistic approach. Most weapons come from the bone or ore trees and therefore should maintain elements of that tree the whole way through. You are upgrading weapons, not creating completely new ones.

Whether or not you like that approach is all going to be personal preference.

Tbh i wish there were more designs. You literally have no visual change much of the time.
I hope there ends up being mods to fix this. MHWorld has some of the worst weapon designs in the series and it's not even consistant. For some of the returning monster weapons(Deviljho, Rathalos, Rathian, etc) They keep the design they had for older games. Yet the new ones just look like another reskin. It's really sad.
This has gotten a LOT of heat... this issue is probably THE #1 complaint of old players.

that said, I actually like it! I feel that, since MH3U, the game has gone too... "neon" and "fast-paced." By the time we got to MHGenerations, we were flipping over the monsters and shooting in the air. As much as I still was having fun, it was getting out of hand.

MHW has reigned this in a bit, including the weapons skins looking more "realistic," by keeping the same base look and just tacking-on new parts.

Again, I actually like the weapons in MHW more than most of the MH games. My opinion, obviously.

That's not more realistic, that's just plain lazy and boring. Some monsters don't even have there own design. (Looking at you, Xeno'jiva !) But hey, that's just like, my opinion.

Quoted the factual part for ya :)

Buy yeah i think people conflate realism and lack of variation and miss some key example.

I dont think it is unfair to expect more end game designs. You work hard on mats only to have no visu update.

Yeah I think you have the most reasonable perspective on this. You're right they put a lot of work into all the new hd assets and animations. Next time I think they will bring more to the table. Great thing abount Monster Hunter is that there is always a next time :P
I don't think it is disrespectful to mod cosmetic things. It shows people being creative and really loving a game.
