Why MHW world is so small?
From the moment I saw the iceborne expansion, I started asking myself (is that all?).

To be honest, I bounced off from Monster hunter World for two reasons: Optimization, which ruined my pleasure in the game [which I later brought to normal by setting the frame cap to 30 fps] and the size of the world. It seemed to me that this game would be huge in terms of locations and after about 20 hours I visited almost all. If I count correctly, then along with iceborne which will come out on Pc next year, there are 6 locations. But it doesn't matter because I'm going back to MHW when the expansion comes out anyway.

I wouldn't have a problem with that if it wasn't for being embarrassingly small. I expected many more locations for this type of game. I haven't played the previous parts so I don't know how big these locations are compared to the example of Monter Hunter 4.

Do you also have such a feeling? Do you also think that the locations are small and you expected more from this game?

Locations are fine. If anything, Ancient Forest is too big for its own good. Something like Elder's Recess is the perfect size.

This is my first MH game, but it feels just fine to me. Maybe the square mileage isn't as big as other games, but a lot of those other games fill their "thousands of miles of gameplay" with nothing of value; just more trees and a wolf or bandit camp or some nonsense scattered here and there.

MHW fills it with actual stuff. Resources you need, traps to utilize, multiple fighting "arenas" with varied methods to attack with, and all of it looking like its actually natural.

Nah the world is massive, plus aint nobody got the time to chase a monster around a world even bigger than this.

You already have people complaining about monsters leaving when they try to hunt them on expeditions of all things. Making the world even bigger is just gunna get even more complaints of searching the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ map for a monster that keeps moving around.

Which kinda was an issue people had in past games.

I'd blow my brains out if there wasn't a fast travel system. The maps are fine.

MHW maps are the size of a couple of old MH maps glued together, also they are hundreds times more detailed and better designed. What are you even talking about OP?

People see the "Open World" tag on the store( that REALLY shouldn't be there) and they expect something like Skyrim.

I wouldn't say that.

I just never played other monster hunter and that's why it was quite a different situation for me. I just felt terrible claustrophobia. I should also mention that just as others say that size is good, I meant more about the variety of locations.

It seems to me that 6 is a bit of little variety for such maps.

It takes a bit of time to make a game like this the areas are fine

I'll say this much, especially as a newcomer to the series. The locations do their job well enough, the focus in this game is the monsters themselves and they have not slouched in that category. I feel that the enviroments are perfect and if they added anymore than what we got, id be even more exhausted just trying to go to all these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ diffrent places to hunt monsters(thank god for the guiding lands in Iceborne)

If anything, the maps in older games feel incredibly small. MHW location design is fine for what the game is trying to accomplish, if anything some locales just feel unnecessarily big. The amount of locations available is also akin to older MH games(not talking ultimate/gens which usually house locales from older titles as well). You have the forest/jungle, desert(albeit not using the heat mechanic like in previous games), quirky pseudo volcanic arena, and in IB the snowy locale(with cold mechanics). If anything I'd say World has a much better area variety, with things like coral highlands and rotten vale hardly resemblind anything from previous titles.

It should be called as open roam, not an open world

If someone never played at least one previous mh I can see why you would think that.

Lemme tell you this is the first game without instanced region maps. You can freely change the locations on your current map without a loading screen.

In previous games you had loading screens everywhere after transition to the next field. That is a huge improvement.

While the total size may be similar (I only played FU and a lil bit 4U). Worlds maps have ofc far more details, are beautful, full of eco systems and kinda large.

There really should be another map here but I don't really see the need. They should make the new icemap useful for endgame. You won't really see it much again after the story which is a waste. A sad waste. Because it looks awesome.

If they were bigger, they would have to give us a horse or let us ride a jagra or something, wouldn't be a bad idea for next MH game.

IMO the maps are of a fine size. It's true that you do explore them pretty fast, but they're intended to be sets of arenas, not an open world you keep constantly exploring. You get used to the zones and figure out all the cool intricacies.

Also, I would like to say that you haven't fully explored the maps, I'm not sure I have either. There's so many tiny areas tucked away with rare gathering points that it'd take a while to truly see everything.
