So in the beginning of the game, you don't worry about how you look like a noob and you put on the armor that is needed, but end game, wear armor for the sake of fashion lol.
I would encourage trying to mix and match pieces as they you can get some really nice aesthetics out of it. Here's a video of what I'm talking about.

I feel you about the IB thing, I haven't bought it either. I read through comments about the clutch claw and other things, but after bringing the discussion here, I of course heard mostly great things about the DLC, however, the most important thing I got out of posting my hot take on why I didn't buy IB is that I truly won't know what I think about it myself until I try it.
You can hear hundreds upon hundreds of opinions on a matter, but until you yourself experience it, you truly cannot know what you think about it. You might have an idea of what you think and you might be right in the end, but without trying it yourself, you just won't know. There's also the problem with Vanilla MHW (which I love btw) where they hid all the white/purple sharpness behing Iceborn DLC. From what I've heard talking to people, IB is worth taking the dive. It has a whole bunch of new monsters, new armors, new weapons and of course, white/purple sharpness.
I am still on the fence in whether I think I'll like Iceborne, but I plan to buy it next time it goes on sale. I have to see for myself if I hate the gimmick or not and if I do, luckily there is a mod for that.
It could be that you are too casual, but at the same time, did you overcome high rank? Yes, yes you did. Master Rank, I'm sure will be difficult, but so long as you drink your demon and armor juice also with the demon and armor powder, as well as eat at the canteen, I believe that you will be better than you think you are. If you do suck, it's just an opportunity to get better. This game is about watching the monster and know when to strike, when to dodge, when to use a slinger item or tool and when to get out of the area. If you continue to pay attention to the flow of the fight, I'm sure you'll have it down in no time.
Thanks, i will look to this video. I just grabbed IB, it's on -40% here, so why not try. I just tried the Great Jagras to see about that Clutch Claw i also read as you did, so far, i don't hate it againg, don't use it if you don't like i guess, but love it when the monster is running away.
Speaking of look, i was just trying to find info on layered armors, which i never did before, i guess on Vanilla, AT Tempered Elder give you ticket to craft some? i want this darn Nergi armor, since i'Ve seen a Cosplay builder on FB crafting it, she loked so sexy i want my toon like this :) in IB seems you need to finish the story, but in Vanilla, infos i found are not really helping, but i think they come from Events. So far i only have unlocked in my list the Haloween one.
We'll see how it goes in IB, i barely am starting the story. Finger cross :)
Some need to be MR50+, then 70+, then lastly 100+.
Or easy route is mod.
RNG is excessive.
Praise the mods.
If anything is cancer for RNG its Warframe and Path of exile (well I guess it depends on the new content) with warframe you have to craft the weapon, wait for it, find the mods and even if you owned it you want to max or at least get rank 9 mob (or rank 5) lvl the weapon to 30 then do it over again to forma for mod slots then do that for armor then finally you can.... farm rng to reach another content island or whatever for more rng! Gunplay is kinda fun but many missions are barebones / boring / bland and don't really challenge you much. most of the grind isn't even fun ...
Path of exile a lot of "endgame" or just post story content is tied to the map which doesn't seem bad but after a while if I run out of sulfur or whatever the delve resource was I have to (when delve came out , now I think you can craft maps with the delve resource) just spam maps to do the content that interested me... it wasn't even like preparing/ gearing up .. just you can't do this content unless you have X resource which behind rng walls.
I finaly decided to grab it yesterday, it's about 40% off until november 2nd or so. And so far, to be honest, i don't regret it. All the reading i made on it made me hesitated. I'm not too far in yet as i do stuff slowly not just focus story, so basicly i only did the first 3 new monsters ( some MR older ones as well) and so far, not big deal, yeah they are a bit longer to kill, but still.
As for the clutch, bah not bad at all, you can decide to use it or not, dunno later in game, but nothing bad. I read some guys had issues with first few monsters, that made me stop buying, but if you grab the first monster armor with defence more or less twice the upgraded/augmented ones i had in vanilla at the end, you'll be fine, and bone weapons and ore weapons are fast tp upgrade. For armor i even made for fun a mission (based on the movie) and was i in for s surprise, it allows you to craft Milla Jovovich's armor, and stat wise, well, exactly perfect to start MR's. So basicly, hard to have a hard time at the beginning.
Not to mention, the ffect of walking in the snow is absolutely amazing, a game that your footsteps doesn't remain in snow or sand for only a few seconds, small details, but that's me, cehcking details. :)
The original post comes off pretty hard as an "I hate grind" post due to the RNG, so forgive me if that was incorrect.
1) As it stands, Rise is both half the size of Iceborne and also costs $20 more even when Iceborne isn't on sale. The expansion for rise won't be coming for up to 9 months from now, and will likely also be another $60 for a total of $120.
2) The only subspecies I know of in base World are Pink Rathian and Azure Rathalos, who barely change from their original versions. The subspecies in Iceborne COMPLETELY overhaul the movesets. For example, Coral Pukei-Pukei fires beams of water from both ends of its body constantly, making it more dangerous at long-range, Viper Tobi-Kadachi uses more flying attacks and has projectiles, and Gold Rathian + Silver Rathalos are faster, have more attacks, and have stronger variations of their normal attacks.

Not to mention Iceborne also has tons of new monsters too that aren't in base game. A few examples are Glavenus, Brachydios, Barioth, Banbaro, Beotodus, Nargacuga, Rajang, and Tigrex. There's more Elder Dragons too, including Namielle, Velkhana, Safi'Jiiva, Kulve Taroth, Alatreon, and Fatalis.
3) Whoever told you monsters will be constantly instakilling you is exaggerating to an extreme degree. As long as you upgrade and update your armor every now and then, monsters will struggle to 3-shot you, let alone instakill you. As for group play, its not necessary at all. I solo'd the entire game, front to back, and never lost a single fight until Alatreon's Judgement wiped me in the second-to-last Elder in the game. I use Charge Blade and Dual Blades.
7) Hunts in Iceborne seem to last longer at first because at high level HR, you're used to wiping the floor with something like a normal Pukei, but MR greatly increases the health, so your starting MR gear feels like "its not doing enough damage". Some people take it personally and go "wtf a skrub PUKEI shouldnt be able to take this much damage!!!". I'd say if you consistently upgrade your gear most hunts take around 20 - 30 minutes. 40+ minute hunts are very rare. Only Velkhana and Raging Brachydios ever pushed me past 40 minutes, and that was because I was playing extremely defensively and couldn't get a good read on their movesets.
I also JUST saw your latest post lmao, but at least what I said can still inform you
Yeah, can't wait to see new monsters, i got to say i am getting a bit tired of seing variant of same monsters (Mud, laval, snow fish, many variant of Rathian/Rathalos, Tobi-Katachi, i met it's poison version earlier, but since my gear is level 3 poison resist, turned out to be a joke (ok i almost died cuz while figthing him, i got ganked but a bunch of, forgot their names, but the Wolverines look alike small animals and one was leeching on my face :)). I'm not a glass canon type of guy, i love having a bit of defence. with Artemi's amror and jewls, i got level poison and level 3 blight, which i can then swap if needed for the miasma.
Yeah i do realise now people were exagerating a bit and i got influenced by this. never realising that sometime people ratehr now drop DPS a bit to add some more defence, they rather keep the numbers going and dieing.
20-30 minutes is what mostly the first encounters took me, even Tempered Banbaro in Elder's. fun monster. I thought reaching about 30 minutes in IB hunt i was being too slow, glad to see you said is sorta a normal thing. We'll see once i face MR Elders, not sure how they are compared to AT in Vanila, i kept doing stupid stuff that got me killed. Buyt in any cases, even if i get stuck later, i will had enjoyed a few more monsters. Got to say i still haven't tried Lunestra, Bahemoth and Kulve in vanila :(
As much a si didn't wanna get IB or afraid to getit, i do now regret not taking it earlier, though, always fun to enjoy base game first.
