You have a weak system, and this game is poorly optimized, so that's to be expected. Switching to DX12 helps alleviate some of the high cpu usage. Also worth checking to see if there's some background process chugging resources.

Your GPU is fine, at least for World.
Your processor is the bottleneck but is a software issue mostly; the game isn`t too optimised as Ashen said, but the main culprit is that capcom messed up his anticheat or something along the lines of "reading bytes of memory", so it's essentially using CPU power for... nothing really...
Use this: https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/3473
it should reduce the cpu usage.

That anti cheat has long since been removed. It was intended to prevent people from using mods to unlock iceborne without buying it as all of the data for iceborne is included with the base game install.

The CRC check Asterisk and Moonbunnie's mod fixes is a different issue.

You have a stronger PC than I do(i5-3570 at 4.5k benchmark score vs your 6.8k and a GTX 1650 that's slightly weaker than the 1060), and I have no issues. Haven't seen any updates come out in the last few days for the game, so you might want to look elsewhere. Driver, power settings, etc. Always worth validating the install of course.

I just saw a thread yesterday about how back when the Iceborne update came out, the settings got messed up and people had to manually set it to lower settings then back up so everything was corrected, it might be worth trying to manually go through the settings and set them again.

I'm having similar issues after not having played the game for a year, worked fine during the launch and months after Iceborne but now it's peaking at 100% usage all the time.

Yup pre-iceborne it was cool, the winter came and it now cooks.

My r7 2700x heats up the entire room, although not at 100% I do see peaks when playin with others. E.g. chasing raging bary in guided lands. 4 players.

Having 100% GPU use is intended, however the cpu usage is not, id suggest you to open up task manager and lower the Monster Hunter Process Priority to low and see if that works, if its still not enough, same steps but this time use the affinity option, disable one of the cores so that the game cant use it, if your CPU is strong enough it will handle the game and the max cpu usage will decrease around 25% (if its a 4 thread cpu)

Also be sure that no other process are taking up some CPU usage like browsers etc.

You can also get a few mods that support performance. There are a few that can increase performance to an extent BUT it ultimately depends on how strong your system is.

The game being unoptimised doesn't help either, I know.

Notable mods that can enhance performance would be:
Stracker's Loader (required for the next mod)
Performance Booster
Reduce or Remove Bloom
EFX Nuke
Any (and all) "removes fog" mod

You can find the mods in Nexus (and the in guide below). For an easier time, I can recommend you this guide about modding: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2359218616

Probably whatever you changed on April 19th. New drivers? AV update? Install something new?

Tried most of this and turned down settings even further but I'm still getting crashes, to the point where my graphics card almost shuts down.

You've got something going wrong with your system then.

You would assume that but it's only happening with MHW, and I never had these issues when I played the game last year.

Our point is, there wasn't any major change within the game that suddenly made it unplayable for people who have a weaker PC than you, so something must be up at your end.

If your graphics card almost shuts down, there's DEFINITELY something wrong on your end, and most likely not within the game.

Switching to DX12 magically fixed it, went from constant frame drops and cpu usage peaking to stable frames. Not sure how or why but it works.
