It would be preferred if we could get the layered armors by just killing monsters outside Guiding Lands.
I honestly don't see the point of having good layered fashion after the point where the game has no more cutscenes, since you won't be able to see your Hunter looking cool(or ridiculous) in those cutscenes.
But, given how its implemented. Its like an additional incentive to spend time in Guiding Lands. In that sense, the design works..... I guess.
You could always mod your game.
You also CAN get layered armor pretty easily mid-game, just wait a week or so until the next Event rolls around, and start binging missions to grab VIP tickets. You can make stuff like Astral, Demonlord, etc using those.
If you're referring to High Rank as endgame, then you're gonna hate Iceborne cuz its double the size of both Low and High Rank combined.
MHW has this odd crafting system. Basically, you need specific "core" materials to unlock the relevant recipe. Usually, hunting the same monster in wherever you need to hunt (GL or normal quests) net you a bunch of core materials you can work with.
There is also a mod that let you see the whole Layered Armor list without having to collect all relevant materials: https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/5538
I don't like their system but honestly it's not the worst I have seen so far.
At that point, they may as well just make 5 because why make a bunch if people are just going to stick to one of them? May as well put the budget in other places.
use the mod if you want it from the very beginning

Literally lets you swap IDs to change Layered Armor slots. It was really handy when Sealed Dragon Cloth Alpha + wasn't layered yet. Flexing with the scarf was fun when it was not available as layered (good ol' times)
PS: I'm not entirely sure if it works or not anymore, so do tell me if it doesn't.
PPS: It works! Read the mod page carefully though since you need to read to know how to use it.

You're a real charmer. I guarantee you would never speak to anyone this way IRL.
Exactly this. In Dark Souls, I'd wear what looked cool, not what was optimal.
And anyone that is anyone knows that if you aren't styling when you beat a boss/monster, you didn't really beat them at all. Hehe
