Cannot get fishing to work.
So i cast the line, and watch as the bobber gets dragged under. But the moment I press the button to bring it back in, it just immediately is pulled back to me, with a sigh, catching nothing. Every.single.time.
There is no "quicktime events" or anything.
So what gives? What am i missing?

Was a problem with my game files. Revalidating fixed it.

There is QTE. Only when it's the big fishes though.

You gotta make sure you catched something before calling it back. There are visual and sound cues for when you managed to hit a fish.

The bobber gets dragged under the water, and vibrates rapidly for a while before i call it back in. But what happens at that point, is that i just pop the thing back into my hand immediately, rather than there being any QTEs that occur.

Like i said, the QTEs only happen if it's a big one. If you see it being dragged, just call it back instead of waiting, that is your problem, basically timing out.

Not a big deal and it's actually easier to deal with than QTEs every time.

You're probably just pulling it back too soon. Wait until the fish actually grabs it and swims away with it. Don't get fooled by it taking little nibbles.

Bobber gets pulled under. I can wait half a second, or 6 seconds, it makes no difference. No fish every time.

Honestly, I think there's a bug in my game here somehow. The visual is glitchy, it jsut rapidly vibrates between two locations when it gets pulled under, so chances are it's not even actually doing what it's supposed to be doing.

you also can try net on close distances inside ponds and wiers, mix it with ghillie suit.

So, are you waiting instead of calling it back when it gets pulled underwater? Or are you waiting for something to happen and there are no fishes around?

When it vibrates, it usually means you gotta call it back before the character does on his own with a sigh afterwards , like you described.

Any variation of waiting or not, yields the same result.
Bobber goes under. I can call it back within a second, or i can wait for a while, and it is the same result. No fish.
It has been like this every time i sit around trying to fish. I just spent like 10 minutes doing this while a friend was doing a gadget quest in an expedition, and did not get a single fish. Same thing every time, no matter how long I wait before pulling it back.

Strange. Unless you are using the wrong pods, this isn't supposed to happen.

Did you manage to get it to work? Did you try watching your friend catch a fish?

Are you pressing the button to 'Fish Up' (default key is 'F' on keyboard) and not the button to 'Cancel' (default is 'E' on keyboard) whenever you get a fish on your line?
Faust Aug 27, 2021 @ 9:18am
probably pressing the wrong button, i had the exact same issue on my ps4 controller. i was pushing X, and it would just pull the line up. i pushed O and it would actually reel in the fish.

Isn't the default a right mouse click?

Depends on the context. If you're in a menu, right mouse click is cancel/go back. If you're fishing, E will retrieve the bobber without catching anything, while F will fish up whatever you've got hooked.

I thought that was the default for fishing.
