no. i'm wondering why I can't do investigations while on quests or an expedition. like "slay 20 vespoid" why can I not do that while on a quest.
Because that's not how the game is structured. The somewhat randomised nature of investigations also helps encourage co-operative hunting, as someone might have posted an SOS for a monster you want to hunt but don't have a good investigation for in your own list.

You get more rewards (usualy rarer ones) by doing quests via investigations. And, if the monster is a Tempered one (with purple rewards boxes) you get Decos from completing those quests.

If you are just talking about normal bounties, they are just there to give you more Armor Spheres and Points. You register a bounty, do whatever it's asking (Hunt Large Monster, Hunt Small Monster, Gather from Bonepiles, etc.) then you come back to grab your reward... Rinse and repeat.

Yeah, basically like said above, investigations are what you want to do when grinding a monster.

There are bounties and investigations. Bounties are what you do during quests. Slay, capture or gather whatever it says. Doesn't have to be the same quest, just altogether. These give you armour spheres when completed.
Investigations are basically just quests with extra rewards.

Investigations are added (loosely) based on your actions and are treated like matters that need a specific investigation (as opposed to bounties, which most definitely are random and you can achieve all the parameters at any time/place/area).

Example, spent an hour farming research points via a basic expedition in Hoarfrost today and found tempered footprints while gathering - thus tempered monster investigation was added to the list. You'll generate countless invests just by playing, eg. breaking monster parts and somesuch.

If all investigations were treated like open bounties, people just casually playing would be netting an obscene amount of passive rewards just by doing whatever. As people have said, the way it works now keeps it structured and allows players to go for specifics. It's not perfect, but it works.

Truthfully, the only thing you really should keep an eye on are Limited Bounties (for your Wyverian Prints) - the rest are just there for you to gain additional rewards whilst farming what you want. Eg. If you wanted a Fulgar Anjanath plate for a specific layered armor or set, you could start an investigation (which is infinitely better than going off on a standard expedition).
