You're a fapping dev who like to sexualize women to hell? Alright, do your thing. Maybe I'll buy your game.
You're leaning left dev and prefer to do things along with feminist ideas? I'm all up for that, let's have that equivalent armor for both sexes (be it sexualized or not).
I just hate how gamers TM will complain either way. Like they did with abbey on Last of Us 2. Not all games need your fapping content. There's plenty on the internet. That's my 2 cents on female armor. Let the devs do what they want.
Personally tho I'm kinda tired of all these huge boobed slim bodied minimal cloth wearing females, so I'm more inclined to games that do something new. I'm tired of that same agenda we have on like a huge percentage of games.
But we're discussing about female armor type here???
who are you talking to??????
play mhw for fap??????what in tarnation are you talking about bro??
Armors might be skimpy (in ugly way not sexy way, when it comes to MH) but are fine and not""sexualized"" in any way that would make ♥♥♥♥♥ grown high.
Myself I just use transmog and spam high metal. I like that fat armor.
No, my complaint is that female characters armorsets overly cater to sexy options and don't have bulky options as an example. If I had picked a female character, my options to achieve that fantasy begin and end with "diablos".
Actually, I WILL say that yes, I would love more sexy male armorsets. It's a real shame that the ones that do (like Kirin) look like garbage so much of the time, but Buff Body is nice.
I will also say that there are also female armorsets I like more than their male equivalents, and some instances where a specific feature of a female armorset is something I'd like on the male equivalent too. I am not arguing female armorsets are ALWAYS worse.
Okay, lemme actually factcheck you on this. I checked every single armorset in the game to actually tally up the differences. These are the categories I will use to demonstrate differences between male/female armorset skin coverage:
1. "Identical" sets where the female/male skin coverage distinction isn't significant enough to note
2. Face revealed, the male has a face covering while the female set doesn't. I won't nitpick if a face covering is changed and it doesn't totally hide the face on the female version, but if a helmet is barely altered so the female version is partially transparent and the male version isn't, I'll count it.
3. Thighs/legs/waist exposed, the male set has these covered
4. Other parts of body exposed (eg. there is cleavage, the belly is exposed) while the male set has these covered
5. Exposure increased, both male and female sets have exposure in these categories, but the female set has more.
Armorsets can qualify for multiple categories simultaneously. I am excluding crossover sets, colorswap sets, single piece armors, and model clones between ranks. For the purposes of tallying, I will count alpha/beta sets as "half" an armorset each and will not count up Gamma armor.

TOTALS in categories across all Ranks:
1. 34 (Equitable coverage)
2. 51.5 (Face is revealed on females but not males)
3. 46 (Thighs/legs are revealed on females but not males)
4. 20 (parts of torso like belly/cleavage are revealed on females but not males)
5. 4 (equal parts of the body are technically revealed, but females are showing dramatically more skin than the male equivalent)
Now, I almost certainly missed armorsets outright or miscategorised them. Probably at least a dozen times if not more. However, this should serve decently for making a VERY ROUGH estimate of how the sex differences in armorsets are handled in World.
With that said... Please explain to me how exactly that 34 is supposed to be an "overwhelming majority"? Thanks.
This, by the way, was purely to count skin exposure. Not things like "the armor gets a dress now", or instances like how female characters don't get giant wings with their Xeno'Jiiva sets, don't get gigantic horns with the Rajang set, etc. IMO female characters on the whole do worse in this category, too.
AND, I would also like to note that, if I'm remembering right and didn't miss something- The reverse of these categories is NEVER true. Kulve Taroth Alpha+ could arguably be a category 5 for males, but the female version is also extremely showy and shows off legs while the male version doesn't. That is the closest the game ever gets to making a male armorset that's more revealing than its female equivalent. In every other instance, the shoe's on the other foot.
The woke of us 2 was a disaster and much hated by gamers (people how loved the first game, had a whole turd dumped on them in the name of social justice). I dont get why Capcom cant see that.
As a company for business, you really dont want to get out of touch of your own fanbase who give you the mula.
As for the main topic at hand. I am fine if they make some of the female armors look cute. I generally dont equip the revealing types. If I did I used layed armors to fine something cute or baddass. But its nice having options. female armors are varied in different ways and I like that. I hope they dont change. Male armours are varity in different ways too, but more for bulkyness lol.
Look up Liana K's videos about that character on Youtube for an example of some of the issues that people have with not only Abby but the writing in TLoU 2 in general.
I have no interest in flooding this thread with links to material discussing games other than MHW so it will be on you to seek it out.
I really don't want to get this thread off topic and frankly Noble Tenshi is at fault for bringing this unrelated stuff up in the first place, but The Last of Us 2 can be a poorly written game AND be written by left-leaning people who made a game that's left-leaning politically on social issues, and frankly they have 0 to do with each other.
Ellie's character motivations derailing from the player's motivations ~2 hours into a game, that is ~15 hours longer than its genre is usually supposed to be for pacing purposes, which is probably the game's biggest issue, has absolutely nothing to do with the game having a trans character in it or Abby being muscular for example.
It's a vicious cycle repeated from Ghostbusters 2016 and the new Star Wars trilogy. Something genuinely mediocre/bad is made, right-wing grifters on the internet latch into this as proof that "if you get woke, you go broke" or that The Left™ are incapable of making good art, their audience follows them, left-wing pundits often develop bad counter-arguments as to how these bad products are good actually, and thus the genuine criticisms of the works become welded onto political ideology in a really toxic manner that's championed by the same people who claim they want to remove politics from art.
It's gross and I want no part in it. There are numerous reasons to debate about female vs male armorsets without bringing this into the discussion.
For me, many of the male armours just look more 'badass'.
My top examples being the Alatreon and Fatalis armours. The male versions make me feel as though my character is unstoppable. The female versions are 'eh'.
In general I prefer the look of the male armours. My issue with the female ones doesn't come down to skimpy or modest - just somehow the designs don't resonate as well as the males ones.
Be they skimpy or covered what I want for armours in future is a more direct correlation between the genders, in terms of impression. Odogaron, for example, evokes the same feeling to me for both genders. But for my above examples I feel that the female armour is lacking [pun?]
But really, in the end, I hope the developers don't worry too much about what I, or others, have to say, and they would just continue to put effort and care into making their game.
This is a good way to put it imo. In general I think there's a good amount of variety with female armor sets in the game as is (and layered armor too). There's cute, sexy/badass, armored/badass, and elegant. A bit of everything for everyone, but some sets really miss the mark when compared between the two. Like the female version is missing that "WOW" factor the male armor has, because it's just the male armor, but with pants, arms, helm or chest piece removed. Or the armor is bulked down. Sure, there's more skin, but it's pretty boring and well...feels uninspired?
Odo's sets feel/look so nice for both because they took the extra care to make the female completely different from the males, but also still look very intimidating. I'd also toss in Kulu, KT, Shara, Guild Palace, and Narga as other positive examples.
