Which download region should I play on?
I know for a fact that download region matters for online matchmaking in this game, between me being in Canada and my friend in New Zealand, we get different pool of SOS requests when we try to join a SOS quest, we have already tested. But here's the real question, I want to know which download region has the most active playerbase.

No matter how populate a region is, there is still a cap for how many session/SOS you can find at once.
All I can think of is avoid regions that are at midnight/dawn time when you play, and maybe switch to regions at evening/night time when you play.

Appreciate the attempt for an answer, but you're not telling me something that I didn't know already. Maybe how about if I change the question to something more specific, what are some of the most populated region to play on during say 6:00pm PDT, 2:00am PDT and 8:00am PDT?

Probably no one can answer this question because not everyone has the time to hop around so many different servers and compare their active player base.
From what I can tell, US and Asia server are quite populated.

Rather than looking for a good region, you're better off joining a discord with lots of players. The MH Gathering Hall discord is probably a good place to start.

you better stay in your own region or you just ruining experience for others while having a high ping which also increases the chance of getting a dc because the game can't keep the matches synched anymore

canada to new zealand would be such a scenario, what is the mediocre ping 300ms+?
lots of lag

it's not that bad
ive played with a few people halfway across the world and the only time i remember really lagging out was in a single brachy quest with randoms lol.
then again we don't usually waste time with other people's sessions, would be a different story then i guess

@ OP why not just stick to your own region? its usually the norm that america has the most players anyway.. or you could just get a squad together via discord or whatever

I'm also curious about this. So far I've been using the "UK - London" region because the game is essentially dead in Portugal and sometimes connections to Spain and France don't really go anywhere either.

Pick wherever is close to you in means of location and timezone.

The only time when I had noticable lag was when I was playing with someone from USA. That gliding Nergigante was one hell of a journey.
