PSA: You can block roars
So since this game has a large influx of new players, I'd just like to make everyone aware that you can block monster roars if your weapon can block.

Also, I do believe you can block flashes too (from tzitzi for example).

Blocking sound isn't going to do anything because the vibrations bounce around the room directly into your ears.

The logic that the sound wave is enough to knock you back would make the sound wave so strong that if it did touch your ears, they'd implode.

One feature of waves, known as diffraction, is that they can bend around corners or obstacles.

But guess what MH logic realy is ? You can actualy block Gas if your Guard skill is maxed.
Guard only reduces pushback and the amount of stamina you use to block. Guard Up blocks 'unblockable" attacks.

To be fair it does make sense... A noise is a vibration, so if it goes through your shield first it would weaken, like having a wall between you and a radio. Light is light, so hiding your eyes behind your shield would work just fine. A gas though can't be stopped by a shield, it just goes around it.

... Game Theory time?
Sound goes around it as well.
It doesn't need to go through your shield. It can use different surfaces to move into different directions.
You know that tiny speaker on the back of your phone? They put it there to make the sound bounce off of your hand and towards your ears.
Try fiddling with it, but don't cover up the speaker.
It's pretty interesting.

The existence of extreme weaponry does not prove science wrong. Sound is affected by physical objects, like it or not. If it didn't, earplugs wouldn't work. In your case, it still has an effect, but it's so minor that it won't make much of a difference.

Yeah, sound from a source like this, can reverb easily behind someone, placement, location and acoustic environment all would have an effect. However, the military devices, just go through damn near anything..

It is yet to be proved if they didn't block the roar BECAUSE they thought they couldn't - or just BECAUSE they didn't saw it coming...
I often fail to block a roar if I can't react in time. As an SnS main, I've had many encounters where I've realised the monster was gonna roar, pressed the guard button (both sheathed and unsheathed) and be warped into the blocking animation one frame later.

Feels good when you block something, anything in the nick of time.

Yes, you can block sound.
SOMEHOW.

When the monster lifts it´s head and you block expecting a roar, but it only looks around twice before flying.

Can HBG with shield attached block those things? Because I think it can't, no dedicated block button.
SubTonic Sep 8, 2018 @ 4:39am
I knew about roar blocking because it's something you can also do in Dragon's Dogma. That game really is like Monster Hunter Lite with such similar mechanics.

HBG blocks when you are standing or aiming (without firing) at the monster attacking you. It can block anything a shield can, and works with Guard and Guard Up skills.
