Guys, am i stupid or whats with the weapon ranking?
I've heard that the best switch axe in the game is the terror tyrannos, which is something i really dont get, because it has a -30% affinity, when the dying light has 0% affinity, and has just a little less damage than that. What gives? Also, the dying light also has some dragon dmg

Tyrannos gets a big boost from the elementless skill.
Ordaeli Sep 5, 2018 @ 9:38pm
Elementless, white sharpness.

30% negative affinity is a 7.5% decrease in overall dps.
Elementless is a 10% damage increase.
White sharpness is pretty much 10% damage increase from blue sharpness too, if I remember. (I don't have the value of blue and white right now, and too tired to look it up)

EDIT: Huh, tyrannos is the jho one, my bad, thought you were talking about the diablos one. Still stand concerning white sharpness.

There are many skills that boost affinity .
Dave Sep 5, 2018 @ 9:40pm
Using the dragonkin eyepatch make that -affinity trivial.

Affinity is a chance to deal 25% more or less damage (depending if it's a positive or negative affinity).

The Terror Tyrannos has -30% affinity. This means it's total dps is dropped 7.5% compared to if it had 0%. If its base damage is 7.5% or more higher than the other weapon, then it will do more dps.

Also, the stronger a weapon's base damage, the more dps it gains from crits, so it can become superior with less crit once you bring it back into the positives.

Dyng light doesnt have white sharpness

anyway both weapons are outclased by Axe of Demons, unless you need badly that elderseal then Tyrannos would be better.

This.
However the hidden skill "Ugliness" of the Diablos SA gives it enough of a handicap to warrant the use of any other SA.

in paper one would think Demon axe would have better dps but having in mind you need a Elementless jewel and Sharp jewel also its rank 8.

Tyrannos in the other hand has a huge amount of white, elderseal, rank 7 and dont need those 2 mandatory jewels to shine.

So yeah in a min-max build for each weapon Tyrannos could be at the same level Demon axe.

Jho weapon by default is blue sharpness so u still need decorations or armor skill to make it white. Then the negative affinity, most people will augment away and u still need a few weakness exploits to remove it totally. After that its awesome. But that's alot of decorations slot to sacrifice..So It depends on build.

yes but with handicraft 5 Tyrannos white bar its huge in comparation to the diablos one so that its a good pro over diablos.

You can use maximum might to negate the crit bring you back to 0% (having full stamina bar)
Then augment it with health and crit to bring it up to -20% which will get 10% crit with mm
and get even 10% more power with elementless

Seems like affinity is too weak. That -30% should really hinder it more than just -7.5% damage, man, affinity needs a buff. Both negative to be more punishing, and positive, to make it more worthwhile.
Komarimaru Sep 5, 2018 @ 10:55pm
Affinity is easily obtained. Probably the easiest stat to get, so -percentage means nothing.
