MR Kulve
Is anyone else disappointed that its not hornless or some sort of deformed horns with how everything has been a progression of sorts seems like it would make so much more sense for this to be the very same kulve we drove off in high rank.

Or this could be its twin sibling, Steve.

Wait, have we been given some new info about it? It's not a new version but just the same old version only now with a death animation and sound I guess? Is it in a new area or just a recycled El Dorado one?

Either way that sucks...honestly would prefer it not to be added if it's just going to be the same as before only dying at the end rather than fleeing, lol.

I kinda expected it'd be Kulve with a new set of horns and potentially a different kind of mantle, or at least just without a mantle - phase 5, where we track where it runs off to after the siege and put it down for good, or something like that.

All the same, regular gold coat. But in area 4 she pole dances and melts the entire ceiling with a lava breath, we also saw some new attacks.

Oh, I'm behind the times. Been slacking off with Bannerlords and REmake3 - could you link me the video for all of this juicy stuff? I could search for it myself but it's easier if someone else does it for me :evilhero:

Well, at least she has some new moves. Pole dancing around the middle column I guess...didn't she already melt the ceiling? She'd get SUPER. HOT. and then it would drip and I remember carting too many times to those falling rocks or whatever. Sounds fun if there's going to be even more of that, lol.

Pole dancing though. Literal or figuratively? There's already so much lewd fan art of Kulve Taroth out there thanks to those gold deposits on her chest, now there's going to be a fresh wave of it :crunchychick: maybe anyway.

I would've liked a visual change to the horns but it makes sense they would grow back, as I'm pretty sure they're "fake" and composed of minerals and the like, not legitimate horns.

We got a new minute-long trailer where we saw the Alpha version of MR KT armor, and a new attack from Kulve in Phase 4. (and some of AT Namielle)

I would've liked an ingrown horn to acknowledge the change but eh, it'll be a version of the Kulve siege where we finally get to kill her for vengance and I'm very interested to see what the armor and weapons will be like. (plus, even though a new mantle would've been nice, we got that in AT Kulve and tbh I like the gold look more)

Now thinking about that. Yeah thats disappointing. Some visual changes given by the fact how many bombs she ate sure seems logical.

I appreciate the video, thank you!

Yeah. I've never actually fought non AT Kulve Taroth, I missed the boat when she first released and when I came back to Monster Hunter World after a long period of not playing, she was already Arch Tempered, and everyone was using tacky gold weapons, to my dismay. What was she like as a regular version? I think the frenzy state was the new thing she had when Arch Tempered, right?

Yeah I mean, it's a free update so I'm not allowed to critique it too harshly, but it definitely feels like a wasted opportunity to me. Some kind of Kulve Taroth that used its fire breath to melt extremely "tough" bioenergised ice into melting and then refreezing into a new ice mantle would have been neat. The area where Velkhana chills out looks like it had been melted, I really figured they'd tie in Kulve Taroth to that somehow lol. Oh well.

It'll be fun murdering her all the same!

The main difference with AT Kulve was the Fury state, yeah, that and scaling her timer/hp/damage to scale properly with the game's powercreep and player's familiarity with Kulve. I was able to solo standard Kulve with the equipment I had at the time but never achieved that with AT Kulve until Iceborne came out and I could come back with MR equipment.

Re. Velkhana's zone, I think you actually have it backwards. Velkhana's scales are revealed at the end of IB to be rapidly cooled magma, hence why it went to the Elder's Recess mid-game to recharge, so IMO Velkhana's lair is probably an eternally frozen volcanic eruption. Haven't examined it too closely to check that theory as I honestly barely go there, though.

It will be interesting to see if MR KT has a Fury state too, though. I would expect the answer will be yes, as MR Teostra also got features ported over from his AT form and the Fury state generally went down really well with players (if for no other reason than the MUSIC) but we'll just have to see how it turns out.

Kinda hope this brings back Free Element weapons. IB and Safi it's a really forgotten skill, and seeing Rarity 11 decorations with Free Elem + whatever just makes me roll my eyes at the moment, since the skill just has no use right now.

Free Element might come back with KT Alpha+ but honestly I'd rank Namielle Gamma as more likely to do that, as TEA has Free Element built into its effect.

Honestly, I'm not 100% about this but I think a Hard Free Elem/Ammo Up Jewel might honestly be the way to go- Or maybe just getting more upgrades for Charms at long last. Would really like to see old Charms that only give 3 points in a skill because that's the skill's cap to just get decoration slots already. (eg. Free Elem/Ammo Up Charm now has a lvl 4 deco slot so it's actually extremely efficient)

Though... What if MR KT armor gives Free Elem/Ammo Up Secret? If you use a hidden element, your elemental power goes ABOVE the normal value of your weapon, and bowguns gain even more magazine size. Not the first time Capcom would've added a new Skill secret as that's what they did with Furious Rajang and Heroics.

Yeah my Iceborne related lore knowledge is pretty spotty, lol. I vaguely remember something about the place not being frozen and then suddenly being frozen because of Velkhana and we needed to hunt them and stop them and then Velkhana was just brushed under the carpet and killed off suddenly without much fanfare and then Shara arrived for some reason and blwehsf.

Interesting, though. Lavasioth would like to know the secret of rapidly cooled magma, I'm sure.

The music is probably the best part of Kulve Taroth, yeah. Seems fairly unique, although I swear I hear notes / vibes of it from Raging Brachydios final fight theme, but I dunno.
Yeah, it's disappointing but understandable as it's a free update. Why redo a monster when you can use the exact same old model and just add some new moves?
Juliane_L Apr 14, 2020 @ 7:20am
Capcom already said it was a master rank version, not a variant. why do people get false hopes like this?
