This is true.
Mind's Eye is helpful to have and a very nice convenience skill. Against most monsters it's unnecessary but like Guard Up, against the monsters you DO benefit against from having it, it pays off really nicely.
Though notably you can bypass Mind's Eye yourself depending on your weapon with smart usage. I'm kinda privileged with my Hunting Horn's inherent Self-Improvement Mind's Eye, but other weapons can use certain moves with inherent Mind's Eye like Switch Axe's Sword Mode attacks.
If that bothers you, slot it into your mantle. late game sharpness polish seems useless unless you have a buttload of whetfish fin plus, or speed sharpening, etc. Trying to sharpen when you have monsters that will make you to roll out of a potion or die are on the map... Bad idea.
I use both because... well... bad luck
