New player - guardian gear seems OP?
So just started but without the gear it takes a long time to kill anything but with it and defender weapons everything drops in a few mins, does it level out soon after starting or?

DO NOT USE THEM. they are suposed to carry you to the endgame so that you can buy the DLC quicker.
you also don't get the real experience while using it.

Yes they are op, even still one of the strongest set for end base game..
Unless you want rushing to iceborne asap, then you don't really have reason to wear it all the time because it could possibly ruin your fun..

A normal/healthy hunt time is 8-15 minutes, but Low and High rank, which make up the entirety of the base game, were notoriously easy and that gear was added to allow you to blast through it to get to Iceborne.

The best and most relevant content is in Iceborne and to be frank there is a lot of filler and not as much quality in the base games roster and story. It's up to you if you want to use it or not, but in high rank it will be slightly less overpowered.

Yeah they are. Unless you are wanting to rush to the end for iceborne content, it will ruin the game to some extent.

Without the defender gear it will feel like it's taking a while to kill things, but most of that can be explained with two factors:

1. You're still getting used to the ropes and so you won't really be using your time efficiently to deal consistent damage to the monster (which, by the way, is 100% fine and it's how the game expects you to be playing, early monsters have their HP balanced around this)

2. You might be un-used to this game and how long monster hunts actually take: Most bossfights in games don't take as long as a single hunt in MH, but a single monsterhunt is more equivalent to a full-blown level in terms of how it's used, than a single punctuated bossfight like how most games use single enemy encounters. View the encounters through that lens, and 10-20 minute hunts isn't really unusual.

Not at all the defender weapons are designed to always be ahead of your current weapons just as what you can craft catches up it uses a unavoidable part of the most recent story quest to upgrade and by the final upgrade its almost like a weapon from the start of master rank

the armor however while its fairly easy to stick with it into master rank due to the heavily defensive skills on it while the defender weapons carry your damage the armor is worth replacing if you want to farm monsters in the 2nd half of the base games story

With low rank gears the monsters where a threat at basically every time you fought the first time and even when getting new armors. You where never OP going through Low Rank and High Rank until the end.

So saying it is notoriously easy is just a lie because there are monsters that will challenge most players when they played through the game.

They are intentionally overpowered as a means to speedrun to Iceborne

You might feel this way, but many did not. Regularly killing things in under 4 minutes with uncoordinated randoms was not normal. Things died so quickly it barely mattered how optimal your build was and nothing hit hard enough to be a threat to your stock of limitless max potions. Not to mention it had temporal mantle before it's nerf..

Using low rank gears didn't make you invincible against other low rank monsters. Monsters still hit hard when you first encountered them and Kirin was known to dish out plenty of one shot kills.
Plenty of monsters posed a threat in the start.

A lot of people found Anjanath to be the first big hurdle in the game because it would often wipe people out with the flame attack.

You just wouldn't have enough defense to negate most of the damage and it was only when you could fully upgrade an armor to max where damage reduction actually took effect. Except for when you went up against Arch Tempered Elder dragons.

Temporal mantle is given to you at HR 16, when you're done with the story entirely and have beaten all the monsters at least once. So you can't rely on that during the SP part. Which is the part I'm talking about.

In the start you didn't have limitless amount of high potions or max potions. It's only later on when you got the farming setup that you have enough of them.
So instead you had to look for honey to craft them.

Then for your 4 minute claim. Did they die quickly or not?

Back in low rank and high rank with weapons you didn't do that much damage. Dual Blades where often in single digit damage numbers.

So the battles took around the same time it takes for a normal fight. 10-15 minutes.

You are straight up smoking crack if you think people were doing 10-15 minutes in low and high rank.
