The armor stats are negligible enough that it really doesn't matter, I advise equipping your cat for fashion.

Weapon is a slightly different matter, generally a Sleep/Paralysis weapon is what's favoured for those occasional status procs you don't land yourself.

I meant their usable equipment

Oh, Gadgets. It depends on preference.

Vigorwasp Spray is good if you expect to cart sometimes and is the safest option.

Flashfly Cage is probably the overall worst but constantly catching monsters in free traps could be worse and the Boombug trap deals decent damage too.

Shieldspire is best if you prefer your palico as an aggro-drawing tool and just want peace and quiet to heal or sharpen every now and then. If you feel like monsters are hounding you too much this takes the pressure off a fair bit.

Coral Orchestra (doh) provides buffs at random that are often pretty significant and also helps create openings with monsters.

Plunderblade just gets you more loot if you either think you can manage without the help of the other Palico gadgets and/or are farming.

Meowlotov Cocktail absolutely maximises damage output if none of the other perks from gadgets appeal to you.

Generally speaking the two most popular ones are Meowlotov and Vigorwasp Spray depending on if you want to play it safe or play it aggressive but it really comes down to user preference at the end of the day. Coral Orchestra is also pretty great when it does stuff like give you Earplugs and the like when you need it and can provide Attack/Def boosts as you hunt.

I've been using shieldspire. As a hammer user, putting a decoy at the bottom of a slope makes for easy slide and spin jump attacks and mounts. Great for drawing agro to give yourself time for heals etc too.

If you're talking about usable equipment, they're pretty much all equally great. It just matters what your personal preference is.

-Vigor Wasp is a great safety net for if you're expecting a fight to be very difficult
-Flashfly Cage can give you quite a few openings by trapping the monster or giving you breathing room by blinding it
-Shieldspire is actually decent for distractions now thanks to the wacky inflatable tube man
-Coral Orchestra is just free random buffs for days
-Plunderblade is good if you want to get some extra free monster parts while hunting
-Meowlotov is free extra damage you don't have to do yourself. It's not a lot per hit, but it helps over time. Plus if you barrel bomb a sleeping monster, your cat will set down their own bomb right next to yours

Armor : Go for fashion.
Weapon : Paralyze or sleep.
Gadget: Meowlotov > Shield > Orchestra > Vigor > Cage > Plunderblade.

For me its one of the two

Shield Spire

Tooting horn

Depends on if I want buff or something that keeps the monster away from me. His weapon is a poison weapon as well.

vigorwasp is the only good one. it heals you, leaves healing items for you to use and revives you after dying (which wont count as a cart)

The Coral Orchestra is much better, stun immunity helps a lot

But currently i use the Meowlotov

Also the best armor is the Tobi-Kadachi set :steammocking:
