Does Iceborne change the base game in any way?
I understand Iceborne content starts after base content, but I am wondering if Iceborne brings anything that benefits the base game (e.g. QoL).

i.e. would my base game experience differ if I own Iceborne?

yeah you get the clutch claw from the start if you own it which completely changes the way you play, new moves are added as well for each weapon

All the weapons get new attacks and you get a clutch claw mechanic.

Pretty much yes, new weapons moves, clutch claw, and new palico gears's feature, all of those features could be too overwhelming to base game, and even if you use HR gears with those features only the hunts would be so easy, even more than using defender gears..

Cool, thanks, sounds like starting with just the base game is good enough then.

So you're a new player then? might wanna get the base game first and see if you'll like the game and then maybe get iceborne unless ofcourse you found a good deal for the complete edition.

While getting Iceborne technically enhances the base experience via those new weapon moves, it's still generally best for a new player to get the base game seperately.

Not just for a lower price investment and therefore lower risk on your end, but also because IB makes the game and learning how to use weapons even more complex. Being introduced to its mechanics after you've gotten used to the way the basegame works is probably best.

Even if you only have the base game, players with Iceborne can still play with you and use the clutch claw and attacks Iceborne adds... So if you're new, and not sure you'll be that into it, you can just get the base game to check it out. Iceborne will change the way you play, but the "basics" remain the same.

iceborne has improvement over the base game.

The new moves will also change the way you fight.

Yes I am, I will do just that yes, especially since I'm not sure I'll get into it. What I was afraid of is that Iceborne added QoL things or things in general that made the base game *much* more enjoyable, but it doesn't seem to be the case. So I'll start with the base game and see if I like it before considering Iceborne :)

With iceborne, you can use new moves in base game.
That will make your base game much enjoyable.

New moves and attacks for weapons is what you would get if you bought both for the first time. (The new moves and attacks are more like buffs as previous monster hunter games had a ton.)

I personally would buy both cause you could transition seamlessly once you get to the end of the story. (Since that is what You would be doing.)
