Does anybody know what do Flourishing and Upsurge mean?

I'm new to the series and not sure what these modifiers mean during an investigation :<

Flourishing means higher amounts of materials from gathering nodes.
Upsurge means increased mat drops.

Upsurge can also apply to reward Zenny on investigations.

There are also some canteen ingredients tied to specific kinds of Flourishing and Upsurge.

Eg. During Flourishing Mushrooms in the Ancient Forest a special Unique Mushroom gathering spot will spawn which will give you the Moonlit Mushroom ingredient. Google can tell you where they spots are and what conditions you need for them to spawn.

Thanks. I was precisely worried about that since I saw that some ingredients only spawn that way.

I see Shamos headgear also let you see unique spawnpoints, do you happen to know how can I identify them? With the googles, I mean.

It lets you see them on the map, upclose you can always identify them since they have a slight glint or sparkle.

So flourishing equals more, while upsurge is higher quality?

No, both are the same thing they just apply to different items, flourishing is for plant based items and upsurges for minerals/bones, the important thing about these is that during them the type of gathering node being boosted will spawn a unique node that gives guranteed a special item which unlocks a canteen ingredient.

Some ingredients are also only found during upsurge/flourish events. That's really the only game mechanic tied to them. You'll have to check a guide on where specifically they all are.

It's so new that it was added all the way back in 2018 when this thread was created… you know… before iceborne was released or even announced.
