Max augmentation slots
So we just farmed the sheet out of Tempered Kushala and then I found out Ruinous Atrocity GS only has 5 aug slots max. Was there an in-game way for me to know this maximum beforehand?

The rarity of the weapon. R10 have the most getting 10 I think when the Safi/Stygian patch comes to PC.

Pre iceborne high rarity weapons got less augment slots too.
Otherwise, not really.
Supposedly there's an update that might allow you to add a slot or two more, but can't confirm.

Ruinuous is rarity 12, nothing higher than that at the moment. Do you mean to tell me that's the
max possible slots in the game now is 5 no matter what?

Oh, lower is better? What the...

Number of slots are inversely proportionate to the rarity of the weapon. Rare 12's have the least, rare 10's have the most.
Lower rarity weapons will have more augment slots, exactly how it used to be in base game.

I think Stygian Zinogre patch will add an extra slot to all weapons, but that's it.

Correct. Rajang added the first additional slot, Stygian adds the second.

I guess now I know why I saw someone in end game with a bone tree GS rarity 11...

Well... if they were smart, they'd be using acidic glavenus or one of the other pre-safi best in slot weapons. The base bone tree is a bit crap.

Either way, higher rarity doesn't always mean better in monster hunter games.

Probably something to keep in mind going forward.

It's balance to attempt to support weapon diversity. R10 have quite a bit less damage but significantly higher upgrade potential, and R12 the inverse.

DBs and bows are a good example of this, the lower rarity elemental weapons typically end up beating the R12 ones just because you can stack augments + do custom upgrades for more elemental damage if it's a bone/iron model.

It's so Rarity 12 weapons feel powerful when you first get them, but at endgame lower Rarity weapons catch up using Augments.

Not that crap really, only 50 less damage and more sharpness. Acidic you practically need to run Masters Touch. My Ruinous has the same damage as the bone, just with dragon element added.

The base bone GS doesn't get white without handicraft. And doesn't get purple at all.

You can use what you like, I'm just saying. Acidic Glavenus IS better.

Yeah sure, just not that much really given that you need to run Teostra set. Differences in damage seem really minuscule between these few choices we have there at the top end, all things considered.
