highest dps weapon?
im curious what the best weapon choice would be if youre brand new to the game. it should be easy to calculate considering youre just comparing no deco defender armor/weapons to each other. (saying bow is the best is wrong because you need total end game gear/decos to be relevant)

I imagine it is very easy to calculate, seeing as obviously we can quantify how a completely new player would play by using white room math that doesn't account for not knowing what rotation to use, not knowing how to react to monsters, not knowing how to control monsters, and not knowing most basic game mechanics.

okay maybe i should have said: if youre an experienced player and start a new game, which would be the highest dps weapon to pick to clear the story asap, including iceborne

Use HBG, but that makes you brain dead and form bad habits,
Bow can outdamage Spread 3 HBG sometimes.
Then again, you are the guy who are kinda toxic meta elitist since i remember you :)
Have fun having your "New Game"

Gunlance shelling can give someone using R1 weapons an early taste of "power" I guess, if that's what you mean. However R1 Gunlances tend to have beyond awful sharpness, so yeah.

Hammer. High Mobility with KO.... monster not moving = dps increase.
Any other weapon requires more investment into decos/armor, and even player skill, to compete with the hammer's POTENTIAL damage output.

yeah thats what i was thinking too, plus you can weaken with just 1 clutch claw attack and it deals lots of ko damage too i believe if you hit the head

If you're new to the game, no such thing.

Objectively? Bow and HBG for the most part. Counting only melee weapons, the Dual Blades and Switch Axe take up the #1 and #2 spots up for the highest DPS. The Switch Axe sadly often doesn't do that great in terms of speedruns though. For one thing, there's a severe lack of speedrunners with the weapon. And second, it's hard to do great damage on enemies that move around quickly and a lot. Most speedruns I see still have a decent amount of room for improvement.

I always look at speedruns when comparing different weapon types because we can assume that's peak player skill = skill is a constant, we can eliminate it as a factor and get a good idea of the ideal DPS potential of each weapon.

That said, all weapons are pretty balanced when used properly.

On the seiken site the order is HBG, Bow, LBG, DB, GS, SnS, CB, Hammer, GL, SA, IG, LS, HH and finally Lance.

The fastest times with HBG are around 1' 30" and the slowest with Lance are still under 5' which is still quite insane for the worst performance of the slowest weapon.

There are still things to look at, for example the best HBG and LBG available post-story are a huge jump in damage; Bow and DB are elemental weapons so they ideally require multiple sets and that's not ideal for story; GS has great damage potential but a single whiff and it drops to the bottom, Lance has fast pokes, counters and mobility, it's nowhere near as punishing... DPS in a vacuum mean very little in MH.

The point is you can pick whatever weapon you like, the biggest difference is how comfortable you are using it. Carting once is going to cost you more time than having a lower dps weapon.

Defo not Hammer. The moveset, gameplan and builds are simple af, but you need proper positioning and knowledge of the monster's moveset due to its poor reach imo.

LBG is the best beginner weapon in terms of how simple and rather safe it is to use. Its a bit harder early on, cause you need ammo and knowledge of the mods and such. Apart from that its as easy as it gets. Good mobility, hardly any animation commitment and all from a distance.

Overall though, while getting a hunt done fast is always good, you really should just try each weapon and see which feels most fun for you.

hello

if you experienced damn all top tier weapon without hungry deco is where you go,( you know this )

if the one play newbie, from my experience ( i play with 3 friend starting this game )

dual blades, long sword is the one, since you can keep attacking and rolling/dashing, no foresight needed.

and as always have a nice day

Whichever blademaster weapon you're most comfortable with is probably going to be the best for an experienced player looking to blitz story.

I am nigh unkillable with my non elemental HP absorb hammer. Ive taken down every monster without using a single pot. I regenerate 25% of my HP with each combo. Clutch attacks regen around 20%.

Use an ishvala helm, two pieces of gold rathian, two of vaal hazak and gem into all hp regen stuff.
