That said, I'd probably take it over Rusted Kushala or Furious Rajang.
I'd rather it not be Raging Brachy either since he really doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Now if they brought back something like Sand Barioth, or Lucent Nargacuga, or Molten Tigrex, or Oroshi Kirin....
the problem is that none of what you listed are variants...
however, i still want lucent nargacuga.
And then there's Jho who has just been getting his butt kicked by all the new monsters even as a savage.
There's also Kushala that they'll probably try to nerf like they did with nergigante with an inferior variant to make it more palatable.
Ruiner Nergi isn't a particularly hard fight but you can't seriously believe Ruiner is an easier fight than standard Nergi? Ruiner is far more complex, has attacks with wider ranges, has bleed, and the divebomb is harder to dodge (as if you're caught close to it and don't have earplugs you'll probably get hit by Nergi itself as it comes down).
I think Rusted would probably be altered with player enjoyment in mind (my immediate thoughts are "remove the wind shield, make it fly less, add way more attack variety) and I think it does probably have a fair bit of potential.
"the other DLC"? I mean, Jho got a Variant but replacement variants are kind of a different deal and that's about it.
What? Pretty much every Turf War Savage has is either a resounding victory, or a draw. I guess standard Jho got wrecked by Yian but that's about it.
I mean, I agree with that (White/Crimson Fatalis are maybe the most blatant examples) but when they say Variant, they mean Variant.
At best with definition-stretching I would say it MIGHT include Deviants, because it's been stated from MH sources that Deviants are a kind of Variant.
Whoawhoa, what? Raging Brachy, even in its Old World form, amps up the standard Brachy fight to a much higher difficulty level and has the significant mechanical change of the proximity-detonation defensive slime coating its body. In Iceborne they would probably change the fight significantly more and who knows what it could be capable of then.
I mean, Raging Brachy brings more to the table than Oroshi Kirin IMO.
Anyway, Elder Dragon Variants are quite possible and I think Capcom will want to add more monsters that kinda push the powercreep line, but it's also possible that they'll add Variants designed to push monsters into that tier of power.
I think Raging Brachy is in the realm of possibility, MAYBE a new Barioth variant but I think it'd be really weird for Capcom to give Tigrex and Barioth upgraded variations and not Nargacuga, one of the most beloved monsters in the entire series.
My zenny is personally on Rusted Kushala and a new Namielle variant. I also think a Kulve Taroth Variant is a major possibility because MR Kulve looks increasingly more and more likely, and a Variant (eg. Hornless Kulve Taroth) would be a good justification to rework the fight.
Or maybe Capcom will come at us with something nobody expected, like a Zorah Magdaros Variant that somehow makes that into a good fight, or a Velkhana Variant that amps up IB's flagship.
My friend is convinced we'll be seeing Gore Magala thanks to Namielle, and thus a whole range of Tempered+ monsters that are all different and mean like Rajang, and Frenzy virus. I'm sure they'd rather save that kind of stuff for a future game, though. Someone "leaked" a monster with a red outline instead of a purple one and he's completely convinced now, lol.
A returning fan favourite, bleh. I wanna say thanks to the new call mechanics and AI involved in that, they might be adding something like Qurupeco or something, but even that seems unlikely. More variants, would be nice to see some more Bird Wyverns akin to Kulu and Tzitzi, but bleh.
I guess if anything I'd be routing for Khezu. Blah blah Gigginox blah blah superior fight blah blah, I still think Khezu is cooler and creepier, although there's not really anywhere for him to lurk really, Hoarfrost is kinda meh when it comes to the cavern area.
Jade Barroth is also a Subspecies and Chameleos doesn't need adding because he's already in the game, just invisible. MAYBE he'll be the "fan favourite" but Chameleos isn't thaaat popular.
Qurupeco isn't getting in for the same reason we got Yian Garuga without getting Yian Kut-Ku. Quru was essentially the Kulu-Ya-Ku of Tri so adding it wouldn't make much sense, even though I WOULD love to have seen its mechanics interacting with World. Khezu and Gigginox are also just too easy to add in updates like this.
For the fan favourite IMO it's Fatalis. We've seen a new 3D model of Fatalis, Safi'Jiiva related dialogue seemed to foreshadow a potential "reckoning" in the form of a potential Black Dragon, Safi doesn't seem to have made the cut for Black Dragon so we're still lacking one in World which is unprecedented for a generation with an expansion. Calling Fatty a "fan favourite" is somewhat debatable but he's a highly respected and legendary monster, most people just find the fight kinda disappointing, which can be changed in World.
Aside from that, perhaps Gogmazios being used in the Velkhana siege arena, which would be absolutely perfect.
Dire Miralis would require the return of underwater combat, otherwise he was a bigger slower Fatalis with funky hitzones.
