Its really not, some weapons are just inherently easier than others.
Regardless, this isn't a pvp game and even in speedrunning LS is far from being the n.1 weapon. I think they should focus on making underused weapons like hunting horn or LBG more attractive instead of nerfing a fun ability.
It also only works if the monster was going to do a move that would have hit you. Otherwise, it is considered a miss and you lose a guage.
If you time it too early or too late, and the monster was going to attack you, you lose a guage and get hit.
If you are successful and then you do a Spirit Roundslash immediately after it and it lands, you gain a guage. If you don't land the Spirit Roundslash or forget to do it after a successful Foresight Slash, then you just get a filled bar and still have to gain a guage manually.
For non-LS players, a guage is like a power up with 3 levels (white, orange, red). Having a guage boosts all damage and also allows Spirit Helmbreaker to be performed at the cost of 1. Gaining a guage requires Spirit Roundslash to be landed and usually it takes 5 moves or so in the Spirit Combo to perform 1. Each move in Spirit Combo eats some of the bar that is filled by landing normal attacks. Hence, why LS players seem to just be attacking all the time.
Successfully doing Foresight Slash or landing a Sliding spirit attack are thus the best ways to quickly skip the entire Spirit Combo and go straight into a Spirit Roundslash which is all that matters in getting a guage.
Ok.
I kinda wish I could've tried the "hard" version, not that I can pull it off consistently even now, but I really would've liked to see how hard it was to master back then.
Could've made for a nice challenge.
That's a good point.
It might be easier now, but the risk is pretty high if you miss the counter window, and I'm not just talking about the losing of your gauge, but you're also exposing yourself to taking damage that could very much be fatal if you're facing a tempered monster.
It's very nice of you to explain all of this (and I'm being sincere).
But I don't think you've read my post at all.
The "hard" version you're talking about is actually like Guard Points when using a charge blade.
Before, you have to pull off that move precisely when you're about to get hit but now you have a bit of leeway for an incoming hit to connect with FS.
I tried it before on my friends PS4 acct and failed miserably sooo... guess I'm goin back to charge blade
