Knock the ♥♥♥♥ outta tail and throw boomerang at it. The problem is you must either really, really have to knock the ♥♥♥♥ outta tail or throw boomerangs dozens, hundreds of times.
I suggest you to just stick with investigation if you need tails, they gives you alot for reward.

To cut off a tail actually requires slashing damage. Just like causing knockouts require impact. While there is a mantle that gives all attacks impact, there is not one for slash.

Good question sharpness in MH didn't really mean sharp it just a terms for dmg type .
