Blast Coating Amount and Blast "Element"
Blast (or slime from the previous games)
has always been a status effect.

I understand that it has a buildup, and a monster tolerance level (iirc, up to 5 tiers, with 5 being high, sometimes impossibly high on resistant monsters and elder dragons). And I understand that blast does not have a timed decay like other status elements. I also understand that blast "elements" on a weapon have the 1/3 chance of applying, unlike the coating which applies 100% of the time.

-----------------------------
My question is, how much blast status in numbers is applied by the blast coating.

The answer is complicated, but it's around the same as the raw.
Coatings and ammo apply the status 100% of the time compared to the 33% of the time of melee weapons. The number of shots required to apply the status depend on a number of variables, among which:
- monster's weakness to status
- monster's strength level (LR, HR, tempered)
- random multipliers
- status boost on coatings (the small + next to it)
- any status boosting abilities or items like Apothecary Mantle

congratulations. You failed to read all of my OP and my question.

best way to find out is using apothecary mantle with a melee to see how many single hits it takes to get a proc then shoot single blast-coating arrows at it in a new mission to see how many that takes

Had a giant fight about this very thing with my friend the other day who was using a gunlance, because he was taking credit for the 3 Blast pops in 5 arrow volleys, despite not hitting it between the 1st and the 3rd pop, because he thought bows worked the same as the other weapons.

If you do the dodge or charge up, you can fire 3 arrows, and the coating is tripled on these shots. Whilst fighting Kushala, in 5 shots I applied Blast 3 times (on first, 3rd, and fifth shot... I'd tell you the rest but I died.) The first hit may have been built up by team-mates though, but the latter two were not.
