SAVEDATA1000 is in fact correct. I'm surprised it even let you get to a black screen with the wrong ID though, mine didn't. Maybe it's cause mine was actually invalid as opposed to just not the correct ID.
When I import the backup I get this error https://puu.sh/EYltz/605b3ed017.png and the numbers on the backup save are absurd, like negative 140k reputation. :/
Was your back up the automatic one the game makes in the savedata_backup folder or a manual one you made? If it was the automatic one and you don't have a manual one, you're probably out of luck.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Capcom are a joke with this. We waited months for this disaster. I sent them a ticket, we'll see what they can do.
What did you do to fix the crashing issue? I thought I followed all those instructions, but whenever I launch it just crashes once it starts to load the save. Any tips? Thanks for the help.
i haven't played since 2018 and this recovered my safe file ! thank you! i had to wait a minute for the game to give me a prompt to reset my keyboard settings.
Oh another possibility is that you lost internet briefly and MHW decided to save it locally instead of to the cloud. If that is the case there will be a save data in local instead of remote.
Another possibility is somehow your save data got set to read only. Make sure that is not the case.
Yet another and more tragic possibility is that for some reason it decided to use it's back up save. It would probably only do this if your main file was corrupted.
If you can't find a solution, make a back up of your save data and then try to do something and save again and see if it does correctly save this time.
1. Does this mean the save file supposed to be located in "SAVEDATA1000"?
2. If I lost internet connection and it was saved to local, how do I transfer my latest save to cloud? As I mentioned above I am playing across different PC so my cloud save should always be latest
3. How to know if my save data is read-only? From the folder of the game in the pc? If it is set to read-only, is there anyway to prevent similar thing happening?
4. I can understand if it uses backup save upon determining my existing file is corrupted but I experience the same thing twice. On Sunday night after pushing up yo MR4, I decided to confirm manual save and close the whole steam, only to login again to check my MR went back to MR1
5. Backing up save file seems to be one method. But how does the game differentiate between the cloud save file and my backed-up save file being the latest?
Sorry if I sound cranky. I am just a bit frustrated from the loss of almost 10hr game time
By default the game save is in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[your steam ID]\582010\remote. The \remote part is where the cloud save is stored. There is also \582010\local. That's where a non cloud save would be located presumably but normally it's empty cause the save will be in \remote if cloud saves are enabled (which they are by default). If there is a SAVEDATA1000 file here or in local, thats when you'd need to check if it's read only (by right clicking, and checking properties).
The game itself has a back up save folder that you can get to by going to steam, right clicking on MHW in your library, clicking manage, then clicking browse local files (or clicking properties and finding browse local files there). The folder you find here called "savedata_backup" will also have a SAVEDATA1000 file which is a copy of your save data when you loaded up the game. I'm not sure if it ever uses this file or if it's just there for you to manually use if you somehow corrupt your save by exiting mid save. That way you'd only lose your current sessions progress instead of the whole save file.
What probably happened is, somehow the sync saves option was disabled. In steam, right click MHW, click properties, click the updates tab, and at the bottom is a checkbox for syncing cloud saves. You need this to be checked (it is by default but perhaps some global setting can override it).
If this is correct, the original computer you played it on probably has that MR4 save file. If it does you can check the box to sync cloud saves, then load up the game, save it again, and you should be fine.
If none of these are the issue, then I probably don't know. I know more than some people about computer issues but I'm really not that knowledgeable.
