Is there not a reason to max out critical eye / attack skills as hammer?
My build so far has Attack and Critical Eye maxed out at 7 each, but I'm wondering if this is optimal?

Should tone down the Attack to 4. There are other better Attack Boost like Agitator, Peak Performance (with Health Augment), or you can slot in defensive stuff.

attack boost really isn't worth the trouble I think I'd be more concerned with Knockout power and focus. Maybe even a point of flinch free for the ankle stabbing teammates.

Levels of Attack Boost beyond 4 honestly aren't great. Attack Boost 4 is okay because of the Affinity bonus but aside from that, the raw damage bonus matters a lot less now with MR weapons' higher raw. Crit Eye is fine, maxing that is never a bad idea.

The main three other skills you may or may not be missing that you might want to focus instead if more damage is what you care about:

Weakness Exploit

Crit Boost

Agitator

Focus is a liability on Hammer, you want to be able to control the charge level and not overshoot the uppercut.

Attack is less useful now weapons have so much natural attack, if it was a % boost that might be something, but instead it's static and thus loses much punch as your own initial value increases. Kinda like how eating a Fish meal for Defence (S) (M) or (L) was great in Low Rank but honestly almost worthless in Master Rank, etc.

Critical Eye has been buffed a fair bit, no longer doomed to be basically worthless next to other skills like Weakness Exploit and Maximum Might, and also not being worthless until Level 5 is a nice plus for it too. 5, 10, 15, 20 now instead of 3, 6, 9, 12, etc etc.

So favour Critical Eye for sure, and Attack? If your build supports Attack 4, or you have excess slots (I.E in your Mantle) that can be put towards getting Attack 4, then it's probably worth it to shoot for it, but outside of that I wouldn't say so, no.

Might be useful on certain low attack weapons anyway like the Zinogre HBG but in most cases with that you're probably wanting to use your limited slots / equipment on other skills, I.E Guard and Critical Eye.

Coalescence 3 with level 2 blight resist is a good combo. It's +18 attack when any negative effect expires. ie you come out of a stun = 90 sec of power.

Agitator 7 is also good because it gives upto 28 attack/20crit rate when a monster is enraged, which should be most of the time if people are clutch clawing the monster in the face. It's also kinda useless on monsters that don't care about flinch shot mechanic like ancient leshen, and possibly archtempered monsters in the future.

Attack is just too expensive for what it offers. Maybe when AT monsters do become immune to clutch claw, then it will be good again, but no one really knows.

for mr weapons getting +1 on attack is very slightly better than +1 affinity for dps. The problem is that you can get much more affinity than attack for the same amount of decos. Assuming that there are no other skills that combo with them.

sacrifice 6 attack for 3 health boost and 3 divine blessing / stun res. You wont notice the damage decrease and neglible hunt time, but you will definitely notice the difference in having health boost 3 and divine blessing /stun res 3

Yeah thats what I do in most of my builds just so I dont get wombo'd or one shot XD

crit eye 7 is mandatory, atack 4 is good because afinity 5, but with weapons having a huge atack rate atm , i would not recomend go beyond 4 in atack.

Slugger and stamina thief just makes fights hilarous, and thats just me with my hh. Nothing better than watching that monster get the sparkles and drool a few minutes into the fight and never truly recover

good positioning is fine and all... but nobody cares if you have good positioning, they'll find a way to flinch you anyway.
