Purple outlined monsters are "Tempered" monsters. They give special drops that are used to augment your equipment, allowing them to become even stronger.
Tempered monsters have random damage scaling, and can do so much as 200% more damage.
Yeah, forgot upgrading some parts, got 391 def now.
Most people build sets at those points. So they have numerous armor sets to upgrade. I doubt somneone will have 3 full sets at 350+
I just build myself a good set with atk boost 7, weakness exploit 3, condition 3 etc... I'm also using a bow. Game was a breeze until I just got one shotted twice by these purple f cks.

MH is all about learning attack areas, safe spots, and telegraph timings. The first 2/3 of the game gives you a fair amount of leeway to make mistakes. The last third is like the final exam. You need to have paid attention and studied: otherwise you're going to fail.
I make sets for different type of mons, and msot of my defenses arnt +74 per peace in relation to the lack of hard armor spheres.
