Corrupt Save file fix
Reddit user zahash has maneged to fix a corrupted pc save file by playing the game on Another machine.

The game will open and load on other pc (for unkown reason). Then you can do something and save it and let steam backup the new fix file.

Worth trying!

There are probably a few still unkown reasons for saving been corrupted, some fix may work for some and not for others. It's good to know all the options

Well luckily it works for me. I dunno why the save data corrupted cause im not even get a crash, i just quit the game and save then i start the game again and the save file just keep circling forever. So i quit the game restart the pc and the problem still persist, then i tried to verify my steam files. Voila its working just fine after that. Still now i back up manually after what happen before

You should make a new thread instead of commenting here. It's unrelated to save files

If you using any mod related before you manualy backup you save data then it might corrupted your save data. There is no way to recover that cause the corrupted files actually the save data files

I know this is super old but I did try using mods and im having the same issue, if i were to launch this game on a different team account would this solve the issue, idc about my saves ill just replay it lol. Since im still getting the failed to load game and corrupted file messages

Verifying steam files has absolutely nothing to do with save game data mate.

As far as i am aware capcom added a ton of extra anti-tamper-cheat stuff to this game along with others, if you are attempting to use mods on a game they strictly said no to using mods then this is your problem, dont use them.

yeah, before you remove your mods you have to set everything back to their default values.

anything outside the default value will be considered invalid, that's why the save doesn't work.

so your recovery step is, install the mod you had in there, set whatever it is back to default, then remove your mod again and it'll work. this is common knowledge for mods in any game, not just mhw. most games will not account for values outside the expected ranges.

no, what capcom did had nothing to do with anti cheat measure. at least, it wasnt 'intended' as an anti cheat. otherwise they'd use something like VAC, and game ban cheaters.

it was their experimental in-house DRM, which will be in full version for Monster Hunter: Wilds. It was just an anti piracy method, it just happened to have an added side effect of also preventing a plugin to enable mods.

and it was the worst. it not only did not prevent piracy, it decreased most ppl's framerates for no reason.

Too late now but please always manually backup save files before installing any mod in any game. And again separately after adding or removing any subsequent mod.

I really don't like contributing to necro, but let me clarify some things:

1. Your save file can get corrupted for no apparent reason, in rare cases.
2. Crashing may potentially corrupt your save file.
3. Crashes don't have to be caused by mods to corrupt your save file.

My suggestion: Always back your save file up manually for games you really care about or have a lot of hours invested into. You never know when Steam Cloud Saves might fail or have an extended internet outage in your area.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
