KT usually just consists of gathering her tracks, leveling her pursuit level by collecting said tracks, beating her parts to chunks of butter, and then thrashing her horns.

Pursuit 1-2 - I usually use these as track gathering, but I've recently just attacked just because.

Pursuit 3-6 - Usually when peeps would start going for her horns.

By breaking parts and completing objectives on the list given to you (They're all question marks if you haven't completed them at least once yet), you can level up your reward level which goes to a max of Level 17 which gives you boxes of different tiers.

Chromatic - Higher Chance for Kjarr Weps.
Gold - Possible Kjarr, but also her other high tier weapons
Silver - Meh, has some decent loot.
Bronze - Just basic rewards with the occasional wep.

This is for the Arch Tempered version but the same process applies

First, it's highly advisable you play with other people. KT is always scaled for multiplayer, and so beating her without friends is very difficult.

Okay, general advice:

  • The Pursuit Level is pretty important for beating Kulve. An organised, proficient team CAN beat her on Pursuit 1, but most players will struggle to get her until around Pursuit 3 onwards. Pretty much any source of Research Points from Kulve advances Pursuit, so try to break as many parts as possible and grab tracks.

  • Kulve consists of 4 phases and you need to get her to Phase 4 to beat her, every phase she advances a zone. The phases go as such:

Phase 1, she moves around the place and is largely passive. Produces a lot of tracks so this is good for farming Pursuit levels. Get her past Phase 1 by dealing enough damage, and thanks to the cannons and boulders, that's actually quite easy even for a solo player at Pursuit 1, if you know what you're doing.

Phase 2, she actually starts fighting you at this point and starts warming up. Get her past this phase by breaking enough of her parts.

Phase 3, she goes to the lava zone where there's a lot more going on including boulders to drop on her and a far more hostile environment. Break more parts of hers during this phase, and she will tunnel to regenerate her whole mantle, which means you're about halfway done with Phase 3. Break even more parts, and the whole mantle comes off beginning Phase 4.

Phase 4, she goes to the final zone and makes her last stand. Notably, her tail is exposed during this phase and breaking it gives a lot of Reward Points, so it's a good stretch goal to shoot for. End Phase 4 by breaking her horns off. Notably, if your team have been doing extremely well, AT Kulve will enter her Fury during this stage and get more difficult, but will grant more rewards at the end if you overcome it.

  • Kulve's horns can be damaged in pre-Phase 4 parts of the hunt. First, you can get the Plating off, which gives you some carves (this can reward you with weapons, so I advise doing it), and then you can Chip the horns for some Reward points. Once the horns are Chipped, their health is locked until Phase 4.

  • Kulve has infinite health, the only thing that matters is her parts' health. This makes Partbreaker an extremely good skill against her. Dealing damage to other parts of Kulve's body CAN be useful, such as attacking the legs for knockdowns in Phase 4, or attacking her in general before Phase 4 to try and Mollify her mantle and make it vunerable, but you should not waste time with hits on parts that have already broken.

  • Yes, I know, "Mollify" is a very weird verb. You'll notice that Katie's mantle is normally very tough and solid metal, but eventually during the fight the Handler will call out that she's been mollified and it goes all molten. Once it's molten, her parts become extremely vunerable. You can break her parts without mollification, but it's pretty tough and you'll do about 3x as much damage to said parts if you get Kulve mollified first by beating on her chest.

  • Mounting Kulve is extremely effective, either for an easy mollification while she has her mantle on, or for a knockdown during Phase 4. The main difficulty in Phase 4 is actually reaching her horns, because that's the only part of her body you really need to attack.

Sorry for writing a lot but that's essentially the lowdown on Katie and how the fight generally works.

Oh, this is actually a good point too.

Even if you don't want to grind Kulve for the weapons (understandable, I didn't do that personally), doing her a couple of times, even casually and not getting many full hornbreaks, is worth it just for the experience and armorset.

I still use Kulve Taroth's alpha chest on a lot of my builds to this day because I love Stun Resistance, and the gamma waistpiece is awesome.

Oh. And the pets. The Caverns of El Dorado have numerous exclusive Endemic lifeforms that you can keep as pets, which is basically the best thing ever.

I would also suggest joining a Discord, most public MH servers run KT when she's available. Public LT lobbies aren't terribly efficient when it comes to grinding out runs.
