Kulve Taroth tips/strategy?
Hi all. I tried my first KT siege yesterday, and it went decently, but I have the feeling there's more I should know. It felt similar to an MMORPG boss fight where you don't know all the mechanics! At one point someone said "Why are we attacking in level 1?", which made me go "Hmm, there must be certain 'standard' things to do that we are not doing."

Anyway, any tips on what exactly to do during this thing would be great! Thanks!

if u're confident u can break at pursuit level 1: go for it
if no:
at level 1, just sniff the footprints and gold chip. Gold chip is produced by digging gajalaka and digging kulve, so don't kill gajalaka before they dig some gold for u. Why just sniff? it gives you less point right? yea.. it gives you less point, but in lot shorter time.. you can get around 200-300 points in 8 mins..
1 person will need 3 sniff run to reach pursuit level 3, which is the earliest easy break for solo
3-4 people will need 1 sniff run to reach pursuit level 3, even easier with group of 3
5 people maybe can reach pursuit level 4
8 people can reach pursuit level 5 or 6 with single sniff run

Kulve Taroth has a mechanic called "Pursuit level", which determines how much health she has in certain phases; the lower the level, the more durable she is. You can raise your pursuit level by doing certain actions, like collecting tracks and breaking parts of her armor. The max pursuit level is 6.

At pursuit level 1, her health is at the highest, and is often considered far too difficult for your typical band of randoms to bring down in a single fight before she runs away. It's still possible, but unlikely. This is why most people will fight her until they complete phase 3 (where she sheds her molten armor permanently before heading to the final area where you fight her). At that point, you can return from the quest and begin a fresh hunt against her at a higher pursuit level, which will have a much lower health pool, and therefore much higher chance of breaking her horns and completing the siege.

If you return from quest you forfeit the single siege bonus though. I thought letting her escape was the meta now.

Rules are very simple:

don't stand in the front of KT, ever - distance doesn't matter

in the first room try to drop as many rocks and shoot as many cannon balls as possible

during assault level 1-2 you do close to zero damage so just try not to cart

unless you are some kind of MHW genius - use 200hp build + defensive mantles on cooldown

don't use fire and dragon weapons + don't use electric till room 4

*shrug* Not sure. I've never heard of such a bonus before, though I haven't bothered with the siege since before ATKT was a thing, so I might be a bit out of date.

I thought it was "Use electric for rooms 1-3, use ice at room 4"?

Oh ok that makes sense. Single siege bonus is an extra incandescent box reward introduced with ATKT. It was designed to discourage the whole go back to base thing. It also gets forfeited if you triple cart but only in the P1.

Edit: Also yes it's thunder for phases 1-3 and ice for 4.

Edit 2: Single siege bonus is also forfeited if joining a hunt above P1 to discourage lobby hopping.

I recommend a light bowgun that can rapid fire thunder ammo (breaking parts) and also use slicing ammo (for horns) if you want a safe and easy to use weapon that can also be used throughout the encounter. You can craft Tobi Kadachi LGB I think. At least until you know what you can do with other stuff.

I thought it was "Use electric for rooms 1-3, use ice at room 4"?

Correct. This whole thing is so confusing that I just use water weapon for all rooms.

The track sniffing thing is bit hit or miss, some people in lobbies act really extra about the whole thing. Difference between purely sniffing and chipping horns/breaking tail bits is only a few minutes tops, since she runs away really fast in phase2 anyway. Usually whenever I have to endure a sniff only ultra purist run with some dude freaking out he'll kick anyone who swings at her, we return to lobby and we wait there for 5minutes for every other team to return anyway.

Bring partbreaker3, that's what really matters in the first phases. All the gold bits around her break, you need to break everything at least once. If you ain't got lightning weapon worth bringing, guess bring raw then.

You are missing out then. Her elemental hitzone values are so high she has effectively a 5-6 star weakness to thunder/ice.

Highlight of the fight is those sweet 100+dmg hits on the horns with DBs.
And then getting blown away by some dork who insists his bombs do higher dps.

A bit more technical but it explains what your up against at a given pursuit level when aiming to break the horns.

Recall trying to watch that, the dudes take forever to get to the point (YouTube 10min ad revenue tech lul). TL;DR, horn damage doesn't count until she's in phase4. Good thing for everyone to know so people would stop wasting sleeps and mounts on her in 2nd last area.

i've found it does count to a point, they will not break in room 3, but they retain the damage they took. once she enrages and makes the room hot, when she is done its possible to have it so literally any amount of damage will trigger the break. its amusing to no end to set this up, and chuck a rock at her face and end the hunt. typically this will happen on pursuit 6 and if you can get her to shed in room 2.

In ATKT, we start from pursuit level 1 otherwise we will be losing extra 2 rainbow boxes from 'Single siege run' objective. From my perspective, capcom made this in order to eliminate players who only play on high pursuit level by AFK'ing in gathering hub waiting for other group to get the rewards immediately.

Hopefully you can find this helpful...Happy hunting :bbtcat:
