Is Arc Shot nececssary for proper bow play?
Decided I might give bow a fair shot since I didn't love how it controls at first. Now I remember why: aiming the Arc Shot with the controller is quite odd, with the horizontal aiming being inverted (pushing the stick to the right makes the aim go left) but the vertical being normal. Even if both were inverted, this wouldn't be too much of an issue for me if I was using the right stick to aim it (I play with the camera controls inverted), but this is quite odd on the left stick. I tried to wrap my head around, see how it makes sense, but I'm failing at that.

So, simply put, can I play with bows and ignore Arc Shot? Or, if I have to use it, can I just not aim it manually?

yes. you do not have to use it. it is still functional as a high dps range weapon without it. but using arc shot on the right moment can give you another opening. for an example, when you deal enough damage to teostra's or kushala's head, he will topple, after he topples, you can throw in a few arch shots and they will get KOed the moment they gets back up on his feet. but just so you know, KO thresholds build up every time you land it, so without impact mantle you probably shouldn't aim for a 2nd KO. with impact mantle you can land about 2-3 of them over the course of a hunt. bow make use of impact extremely well, it does KO way better than hammer. to deal optimum damage with bow, you still have to be pretty close to the monster. almost greatsword range position wise. like the example i gave you, i would only use it when i know i can land most of its shots like when the monsters is down, so i never use the manual aim arc shot aiming in most hunts. when you are comboing on the monster's face whiles its squirming on the floor, arc shot will hit the head as long as you are in range. if not, just dash dance closer.

I always try to avoid using arc shot whenever I play multiplayer

Arc shot is amazing. In single player you can get a K.O. every 1 or 2 minutes if you spam it right.

Hi bow user here, arc shot is very helpful in downing monsters BUT only use it in solo. DO NOT use it in an SOS or other player's session. Reason is because those pellets will trip your teammates and that one trip could occasionally interupt your teammates ability to dodge an attack(especially LS users or an IG in midair) which might or might not cart them.

If they get carted because of the arc shot then it is the bow users fault. I've seen a lot of bow idiots(like a lot) including HR 200+ spamming arc shot mindlessly to the point that some melee users gets tripped and then carted because they fail to properly dodge due to those pellets.

And if anyone is saying "you should have put a FF deco", I'd say no, no one wants to use ff just to compensate someone's inability to not spam arc shot mindlessly. That one deco slot is used for decos like weakness exploit or crit boost and so on and not using ff just to compensate someone's lack of skill.

Those people should
a) die in a horrible fire
or
b) play low rank to know how bad it is

btt
You can aim at the wings if there are melee players and you really want to use arc shot
