With so many DLCs up for sale, is there anything to unlock in-game?
Cosmetic-wise, is there anything to unlock just by playing the game? Cuz I see here there's quite a lot of DLCs and while some of them are free, that's not most of them. It's about R$340 to get all DLCs (yikes), which is about R$100 or R$200 more than I would pay on other AAA games such as Capcom's own RE2 and DMC5 (and even with the DLCs, neither gets to R$340).

You can unlock Layered armor via Arch Tempered Quests or collaboration like Witcher3 , FFX IV and Assassins creed.

Not much but something

That's kinda disappointing. I suppose there are also no stickers or animations or other cosmetic options to be unlocked in the game itself?

The only cosmetic option you can unlock besides the already mentioned is the rainbow colour you get for completing every quest.

Other than the unique dances, chat stickers and a few hair styles the store doesn't offer you anything others can see in-game. Nobody else will see what your Handler or Poogie looks like. Everything else has to be earned in-game. The DLC for MHW is very much a form of charity to Capcom with nothing in-game being locked behind these bonus DLC options short of the upcoming Iceborne expansion.

But when you say everything else, what exactly do you mean? There ARE more cosmetics to unlock in-game or do I have to get the DLCs to have anything other than the default options?

Also, I see here I have to pay to edit my character? There's a free DLC which seems to be a free voucher, but then there's three others which contain voucher bundles and they have price tags.

The "Character Edit Voucher" only really effects your face and gender that a trip to the salon couldn't alter. There are no monsters, armors or weapons hidden behind DLC nor does the DLC offer ANY Layered Armor. All added content to the game is offered free, some on a times rotation of Event quests. Deviljho, The Witcher, Final Fantasy, Dante, ect. bonuses are free additions.
So in short, I do have to purchase those DLCs if I want more animations or stickers or costumes? I understand that no armors or weapons are behind a paywall beyond the game's own price, but what about cosmetics? It's pretty much as Jethro said?

It is. But I'm also willing to give Capcom a few extra dollars after all the amazing, free content they've included in the game.

This is especially true for the people who've poured hundreds of hours into the game.

Oh? I actually never heard much about this besides the few collaboration events. That's nice and all, but I'm 100% sure that they could include most of those DLCs as free updates. Business-wise, I like what they did with RE2 and DMC5 much more. I'm quite hesitant about MHW cuz I do enjoy costumes and accessories and I'd also like to have those stickers and animations, but the business model they decided to go with really turns me off.

New dances and stickers, yes, but the only costumes you can purchase only effect the Handler which nobody else but you could see. The only cosmetics other than the Character Edit Vourcher which lets you completely redo how your character looks if you're not satisfied with it or starting a new character are the 3-4 hair styles not available in the already large list of hair styles available.

Costumes and cosmetics that are soley cosmetic are a tiny part of the game, 99% of the time, unless you are in the endgame, you are going to be wearing one of many, many armor sets found ingame. There is way more than just the dlc update stuff

OK, so I see here this layered armor thing is actually cosmetic? I've never played this game, so I thought you guys meant actual armor when you mentioned that. Or is it actually regular armor that you get to use as appearance for what you have equipped, pretty much like how glamour works in FFXIV?
Tregrenos Jun 27, 2019 @ 11:06am
Before it's brought up you should know Capcom laughed at the concept of adding Lootcrates to MHW. This game is lucrative enough on its own without being pay to win and I really respect Capcoms integrity on the matter.
