Uragaan A or B armor?
I’m planning on possibly playing a tank role. Which of the 2 is better? I usually am told by my friends to go for B but I want to make sure. Thanks for any help! :)

I am currently using this with a Lance:
Rathalos Helm Beta
Rathalos Mail Beta (unlocks Critical Element)
Uragaan Vambraces Alpha
Uragaan Coil Beta
Uragaan Greaves Alpha (unlocks Guard Up)

I'm no expert though, but it suits me well.
choosing A or B for most armor depends on what skills they give(and what skills you are looking for) and how many and what deco slots B gives and if you have deco to fill them effectivly
The Rathalos armor pieces are among the best to combine with Uragaan before Nerg. Their set bonus however isn't that good for Lance as elemental damage is rather low unless you have a high-end set with a Kjarr Lance.
Beta. Honestly neither set is very good. You really only might need the vambraces beta and Greaves (alpha or beta depending on how much guard you need.) I don't know how far in you are but you could just ditch the Uragaan altogether for an ironside charm.

Edit: Does anyone know why the Ironside charm gives guard and the Guard charm gives Iron skin?

The only reason to wear Uragaan armor is Guard Up and you need three pieces to activate it.
neither. since you can get guard 5 and guard up as decos. there is no reason to worry about being a tank since there is no real way to control aggro outside of behemoth runs. this is a meme set i once used to tank behemoth. it is almost unkillable with a few exceptions.

in any other hunt i wouldn't even use it. takes forever trying to tickle something to death.

Tip for future play in evaluating Alpha/Beta pieces:

Note down what skills and decoration slots each one has. They'll fall into the following categories:

Alpha is just worse: Unfortunately there are some Alpha pieces like this IIRC. In exchange for losing Decoration slots, you can sometimes get levels of a skill that do not actually match the Decoration slots you gave up. Never bother with these ones.

They're equal: The Beta piece has more slots and the Alpha piece has more skills, but you could get the skill the Alpha provides with the slot the Beta piece provides. In these cases, Beta is a direct upgrade if you have enough Decorations, but using Alpha is worth it if you either don't have the decoration in question (nergigante armor is a good example of this) and/or you like the skill the Alpha provides anyway and aren't interested in changing it. For example, Uragaan helm has an extra level of Thunder Resist for Alpha, but its Beta variant's small Deco slot could get you Thunder Resist anyway, or something else. Beta is technically better, but Alpha can still be usable without dragging down your build in some situations.

Alpha CAN be more efficient: Take Uragaan Vambraces as an example. Alpha comes with a small deco slot and two "small" skills, while Beta comes with a medium Deco slot and one "small" skill. If you don't need that Medium deco slot and were planning to fill that piece with a small jewel anyway, Alpha is better, but if you can make good use of the extra decoration size, Beta is better. For this one, it depends.

Alpha provides a unique skill: Uragaan armor doesn't fall into this, but some armorpieces provide skills that Decorations simply can't, like Heat Guard. In these cases neither is technically an upgrade, it depends on if you value that unique skill or not.

Evaluating alpha/beta pieces is actually quite simple. Most of the time, Beta is the superior choice, but there are actually a good number of armorpieces where Alpha is worth considering.

Before you get Vaal pieces playing tank is pointless. You just dont ever get your defence high enough that the Monster hits are going to mitigated.

Also no aggro mechanic anyways.

Vaal only works because it regens the damage rather than mitigating it.

Avoidance is still a better idea.

Guard to level 3 and Guard up (for a few select monsters single attack) are worth while on Lance GL and HBG. But thats only if you depend on block rather than using it as a "panic button"
As someone who mains Lance, Uragaan A and build yourself an Ironside charm. Then just focus on maxing out your armour.

I can solo all ATs with this set, and look fantastic while doing it. Mixed sets look terrible, who uses them?
