gems farming legiana
so i've been farming for a legiana gem but it doesnt drop in the slightest..am i doing it wrong ?

ive been doing investigations with golden and silver rewards and some common but what i've gathered from the internet it seems you have a higher chance at getting a gem by carvin instead of capturing or am i wrong ? I am capturing legianas left and right and no gems so farm...i also wanna mention i am a bow user and i am breaking all the parts do i also need to cut her tail too ? any tips ? i am using blast and other stuff i am capable but it seems it doesnt drop only the claw+ and that is it

EDIT : don't take my hours seriously i've been playing blindly without wanting to learn anything , tl:dr i am still a mega noob

Still, I would guess that the time saved (~10% of that monster's remaining HP plus 40 seconds faster ending of the quest) would outweigh whatever minor benefit carving gives.

Anyway, here's a few tips:

-Completing the entire week's Limited Bounties will grant a Gold Wyverian Print that lets you meld any gem you want. If all the bounties aren't accessible yet I would advise getting further through the story before doing any serious gem farming, but if that's not an option for you, there's a few other things.

-Unlocking more Palico Gadgets will eventually reward the Plunderblade as the 4th Gadget unlock. The Plunderblade is centered around granting additional monster materials for hunts so that might just get you a Gem.

-Make sure you break Legiana's head, back, and tail on each hunt. The tail is not severable but all three parts are breakable and all of them have a chance for a Gem.

Aside from that, you just need to cross your fingers. Each gold Investigation box is a 13% chance for a Gem so it's only a matter of time.

Capturing uses the same loot table as carving, so there's no reason not to capture. The only requirement for gems is that the monster be high rank.

Basically, you're doing everything right, but gems are the rarest drop from a mob. Sometimes RNG just isn't on your side.

For me if doing the limited is faster than waiting for a gem to drop I usually just meld it
