Anyway, why would Loc Lac change the multiplayer situation at all? It is just a Gathering Hub reskin. The base MHW Gathering Hub is pretty bad (significantly fixed in Iceborne thankfully) but the fact remains that the online Hubs are mechanically pretty much the same throughout the series. Changing it into a city instead of a tavern-boat/giant tavern-sauna hybrid would not suddenly make more players hang out there.
Yeah, I have played Tri, it was actually my introduction to the series like a lot of other Western fans. To reiterate what Seamus said, speak for yourself.
SOS Signals, while they have had consequences for the online mode, are extremely convenient. Being able to start a quest solo, then realize you need help, then shoot up an SOS to make the quest multiplayer is awesome.
That's not to say I think the current MP experience is perfect but I don't want the SOS flare to be scrapped. Better incentives to play with others is what the game needs.
In old games this "incentive" was the HP for monsters remaining consistent between solo/MP so MP was the go-to easier way to do quests and was essentially the mandatory lategame experience. In World they made a halfhearted attempt at this with Kulve and the seasonal meals but it's not really enough. Two quick improvements they could make would be:
-Allowing an SOS Flare option when starting a quest as opposed to only once you're in it, just to make the system less awkward. (maybe also distinguish it from standard flares- that way players might be able to better distinguish between an actual SOS and a "I'd just like a group" callout)
-Add a direct incentive for grouping up traditionally instead of using SOS Flares. An easy bandaid way to do this, if not an effective one (Though IMO this should be a thing anyway because it's quite a deprecated feature with HP scaling being a thing) would be to make the Zenny split mechanic only apply to SOS Flare hunts, but increasing monster reward amounts slightly for playing with an organised group would also be nice.
Good points.. but u dont miss that old lobby system and the seperate online mode? imo it had much more personality. The new gathering hubs are ghost towns, even in iceborne. And why? Because everybody uses this flair thing.. thats why i hate it. I know its better for guys who like going solo and if they need help, they just use the flair.. but for people who like to hang out, chat a bit etc.. its not nice
(sry for my english, hope u understand what i mean)
