Button config should detect button pressed
So for whatever reason, the button prompts on screen do not match what the buttons on my controller actually do. I have tried both the Xbox One controller via bluetooth, and the PS4 Dualshock 4 controller. Both 'work', but do not match what they claim.

'A' on screen is 'X', 'B' on screen is 'A', and right trigger is 'Start', and so on. This is incredibly frustrating!

1.0 seemed to allow you to map buttons for custom controllers, but this no longer works as well.

XInput must be fixed!

Will this be fixed soon, or do I need to reset a config or delete a file somewhere?

Thanks

Anyway, per the topic, I would much prefer it if rather than on screen 'choose your own button' for each action, if you could choose the function, press the button and it's chosen like many games. Yes it can be error prone, but it's much faster and when button confusion like this happens it all 'just works'.

Do you have any form of third-party application messing with the input? Such as Steam's controller support or DS4 Windows?

This game have correct bindings on my end using both the Xbox One controller and DualShock 4 controller (when not emulated as an XInput device), so I wouldn't be surprised if it's some third-party stuff that's causing it (including Steam's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ controller support that screws with input in some cases).

I tested the Xbox One controller using Bluetooth during the beta and did not experience incorrect prompts then either. Or, well... It was an issue back in September last year, but have been solved since long ago.

Although they did also improve Bluetooth controller compatibility in the last patch.

I disabled Steam controller configs completely, I exited my mouse and logitech config software, I downloaded game controller tester from windows store, I don't know what else to do. I can confirm that the controller works but the buttons are consistently way off on Ys VIII.

I'll try another PC and see how that one does.

My other PC does work properly. I am 90% sure it must be because I followed the initial 1.0 instructions and configured the controller with Steam override, then pressed the button prompts to choose each button.

Now I need instructions on how to delete the controller config from that PC and hopefully that fixes it.

I figured it out. I had to delete adjust.bin in the game directory and now the controls are fine, except for the 8-way movement.

Thank you for finding a fix. Deleting adjust.bin helped solve my controller issue as well.
