Dana or Adol? Or someone else?
I just got Dana, and I'm at a loss on who to bench.

On one hand, both Dana and Adol and fantastically powerful, so I would prefer to use both of them, but that means I'd be losing out on either pierce or blunt damage.

What did you guys go with?

Wasn't there's an accessory that allow you to change type?
Adol's Brave charge spam all the way

I've heard about that, but I think that's at the very end of the game, right?

Yeah that's near the end, around chapter 4 or beginning of chapter 5
Simply put here
If you want a hit and run tactic, choose Adol, since nearly all his skills are quick which is easy to spam for high damage in short time
Dana is more about direct fight in my opinion, her skills is slower but her attack can be buff greatly with Dragon Spirit. Also in extras story Dana can change her type which also change her movesets too, she's more fun to play with than Adol
Both are equally strong until Adol get his final skill Brave Charge, you can choose either to play with, I personally would play with Dana this time, already been through 100% time with him vita version before

Yeah, Dana's playstyle seems more up my alley. But benching the main character just feels wrong.

If I were to use both of them, is there a damage type that doesn't come up as often as others? Right now my blunt/pierce are Ricotta and Laxia. I know Hummel is supposedly better, but Im not a fan of his playstyle.

wait, aren't they the same slash type? why bother choose?
of course keep using Adol since you know, he's the main character.
and you need to power up Dana since she will be useful later on, i'm not saying which part but she will need to be strong in my opinion.

Pierce is probably the type that come up the least, especially for later half of the island
Didn't use hummel much, I don't like his playstyle either, I prefer Laxia as just like Adol she can rush through enemies quickly both of them are like a storm lol

For blunt, there is no one better than Sahad, he's tanky, hard hitting, deal very high blunt damage and some of his skills have very wide aoe plus hit very hard. Can easily get you S rank on any Waves defend despite the damage type
Ricotta on other hand is weaker, deal little blunt damage as are very vulnerable during her skills use < Though that's I'm playing on hell difficulty

Them both being slash, abd both being the strongest characters in the game is exactly why choosing one is so difficult.

Edit: Interesting, I understand that Sahad does more damage per hit, but Ricotta is faster. And it looks to me that her skills do more damage (because they hit multiple times). Though maybe Im using Sahad wrong. Im also only on Hard, so I assume I can afford to make more mistakes than you.

Half game onward we only talk about fighting Primordials, therefore, 2 slash and 1 strike is the best for dealing with them -> Adol, Sahad and Dana. Adol obviously is the main dmg dealer due to his spammable Force Edge and the ultimate Brave Charge. Sahad is such a strong stunner that his >>> Magna Wave <<< can knock down anything regardless of type, he also is the only one capable of provoking monsters. Dana is fast, flexible and always the best substitute for Adol in case he is in low health, and can endure a good amount of dmg thanks to Dragon Spirit, or just simply become OP Elementalist with Water Burst, Earth Dragon.

p.s: It is encouraged to keep both Adol and Dana together, you will see why later.

Dana is the strongest character in the game, hands down.

Dana isnt mandatory for anything, and personally I'd advice using both of them in the party.

No idea why anyone would run the party without Dana..:ys_dana:

I was disappointed when I finally got Dana and she couldn't double jump.

You get it later though.

There are far more disappointing things about Dana, but having them would be absolutely broken.

I ended up with the 3-girls party. In previous Ys games I used to have Adol and 2 other characters but this time Dana completely took the spotlight. Laxia has a few skills that make enemies stop while the animation plays (so you can look around as it happens, useful when around lots of enemies) and was useful for many fights (before Dana she was my most played character). Then Ricotta because some enemies need to be crushed. But unlike previous Ys games there aren't any bad characters. Even Hummel is great, though he does get taking used to more than the others.

Hummel. Counter FTW.

Keeping both in the party is not a bad idea, because you get 10% bonus damage when you have two characters with the same attack type in the party. I always kept both in party and switched the third depending on the enemy type.

Personally I don't understand why anyone would choose Ricotta over Sahad. Magna Wave is just one of the most OP skill in this game both in terms of damage output and attack area.

PS. Dana has by far the highest DPS once you have Dragon Spirit + Water Burst, Adol comes (not close) second with Brave Charge.
