Y's has some of the best game music ever.
It's a little genric in Ys 8 tho.
Wish they'd continue to put Holders of Power in later games.

How far are you in the game tho? I havent played that many Ys games, but I'd be very surprised if any of the others have overall soundtracks( IE: more then just a few really good pieces) of this quality. Feels like there's more good+ soundtracks in this one.

Only really generic ones I've heard so far are the castaway village ones and the raid one.

That said, Origins and Ark both have openings that fit the opening video a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, there is good music in this but its a mixed bag.
I could almost hear reminants of Whispers of the Goddesses in one of the "goddess" style themes in this game which was great.
One of the first impressions of this game was of the music skipping back and forth and it was that distracting that I just couldn't play until it was fixed.

Be surprised, the earlier games ie before steam had almost perfect music scores throughout.

Not even Ar nosurge had a perfect soundtrack. Havent played any game that did. Always going to be some fillers that are of less quality. Ys VIII has that too, but most of the regular soundtracks are very good.

Again, I'd have to ask how far into the game you are if you consider the music to be very generic across the board. Sunshine Coast already starts off very non-generic and it only improves from that point on. (ignoring the more generic tunes like the raid one, or Castaway village's)

Id say you have to play the first 3 Ys games (preferably on Turbografx, but PC version have different versions of same tunes) to experience the best Ys music ever, and pretty high up if were talking all games.

But yeah ys 8 is pretty darn good too. The boss music is classic Ys.

Yeah, Ys8 has the weakes OST out of all Ys titles, which is a shame because this series has some of the best themes in gaming.

There are some decent themes here and there, but nothing truly memorable, like every other Ys title has, which makes you want to listen to them over and over.

Eh, sounds like nostalgia to me. A lot of those tracks aged really badly (as is usually the case with older videogame music). And tbh, a bunch of them are quite generic as well. (but every soundtrack has generic tracks)

That said, I only listened up untill the Ys 6 soundtrack ''Ernst'' which ended up being better then I remembered. The only other 2 really noticably good ones were the ones I already knew about (Ys Origins OP and Ys 6 Mighty Obstacles).

Kind of disappointed, was hoping I'd hear some new great tracks. :P

Overcome the Rocky Path, A to Z, Deadly Temptation, Next Step Towards the Unknown are pretty good.
Overall Ys 8 doesn’t have a bad OST, though I can’t say that any of the tracks are as awesome as some of the themes from previous games, like:

I might agree that Ys 8 has a somewhat weak soundtrack overall but Sunshine Coastline is one of the best video game songs I have ever heard. Immaculately placed in the game as well and one of the big reasons I had so much drive in the early game.
