Underwater engines: Air
Howdy! When the Gearbox update came out, i tried to make my old submarine to work, but i still have a problem: the air.

To make it work it would have to be on the surface all the time. Otherwise i'll have to use electric engines, but they drain batteries at the speed of light.

Any idea on how i could have air in the engine even tho it's undewarter?

Are you using gearboxes correctly?
You need side B facing your engine and side A facing consumers in order to increase RPS transferred to consumer.
Arrows on gearboxes are very misleading.

I don't have experience with it but I think air acts like a fluid and you could fill tanks with air.

nope! already tried the EMPTY fluid, nothing

I thought subs aways used electric motors for under water and only used normal on the surface ,in ww2 they did anyway.
We need a reactor for moden subs methinks ,hint hint :}

Thank you i now have an idea on how to make my submarine!

Most modern smaller minisubs would use electric batteries i think.
the trick is recharging the batteries,im having issues doing this with my jets

Yup most submarines used diesel / electric propulsion, before nuclear reactor came into place. Basically under water = run electric engines as they dont make so much noise(and dont need air to operate) above water deisel to charge batteries.

I think the battery recharge is a little off. I would think the engine running even at idle would help charge the batteries. With everything turned off, my battery still drains.

But in the case of the mystery sub. I think you will either have to build an electric sub only or build a diesel engine for surface and electric for under water. I don't know what would happen though if you put the air intake in a locked room like the control room or whatever.

I don't know where air is calculated in the game yet, but it would be neat to have a tank for "air".

I know you can pump water into and out of a tank, but can you pump air in and out of tank? (Thinking of a vacuum here). I wonder what will happen...

Already tested that: the empty space is considered as EMPTY and not AIR

No, you CAN pump air into an enclosed volume. Someone already posted that last week, it does work.

Doesn't work for me tho

What's the problem with electric motors? Maybe you're not using them right? Even a small/medium motor can propell your boat to the speed of light (exagerrated a little bit) given enough gearboxes.
Now, if you want to cheat and break the laws of physics - with enough gearboxes electric motor can spin generators and charge batteries while working.
Lastly, with enough and properly placed gearboxes, you only need seconds (a minute tops) to recharge your batts on surface before you dive again.

You can pump air to empty tank, not custom tank or enclosed volume

Already tried the broken geenrator, it doesn't work, i'll do the hybrid system
