Do I have to have 100% Secrets in all areas (Windy Plains, Yarrow, etc.) in order to get the gold star when I complete the game?

Yes, every section must be 100% to count as gold star. But you don't need to make the Trial of Heaven and Hell to get the final artefact. So you only have to collect 42 artefacts.

Be aware that if you pause the game (open the in-game map) the in-game time is stopped. So you can plan ahead with the external map, little by little, to adapt and optimize your route while playing.

Did you activated the perks with which secrets / breakable walls are hightlighted and ores are shown on the map? These two perks help a lot finding the rest of the secrets.

Else, try to unreveal any map-edges and watch out for "open gaps". Often secrets are leading into those areas. With the above perks you can find the hidden entrance.

But it is no shame to use the map, since some of the secrets are hidden very mean :)

I did use those perks, and that's how I got as many as I have. And I am very close...

Yes, I had to look up 3-4 of them myself also.
