Killing Black Knight in Undead Burg

Sorry, but it's just really frustrating. It's basically beginning of the game and I simply can't kill that guy. I even watched walkthrough on youtube and try do exactly what that guy did - to walk around and when knight turn his back on me after attack I strike him from behind.

But instead of "backstabbing" or even ordinary attack, I always just miss. There is only a small flash and it looks like he is simply invulnerable. What's wrong?

You don't need to kill the Black Knight so early, you can come back later.
For backstabbing you have to lower your shield, don't block.

use a parry shield and kill him. watch the movement of his arm, when he move on your direction, parry. i recomend you upgrade your weapon to +5 before trying since you are new to the game

There is a cheese for this guy - aggro him, then run up the stairs, then up again, halfway up to the round tower. There is a gap letting you jump down onto a ledge. It's easy to jump down, but when the BK follows you, he always falls off and dies. Then another easy jump to get to the corridor where you first met him.

Welcome to the Dark Souls community. Those enemies are mid tier enemies. You do so little damage that you should either try some of the pine resin you got from the chest or wait until you have better weapons and upgrades.

If all is too hard atm, don´t be afraid to cheese the black knight to death.

Clear the map completly, run to the tower top and kite him. Enter the church from backside entrance, take a bow and a good deal of cheap wooden arrows, see him how he goes slowly backwards after entering the church. He is usualy bound to a certain map areal and once he reach the line he retreat slowly looking at you.

Now shot at his head or body as many arrows you can do until he attack again... rinse and repeat until he is dead. You can do this with every range weapon and all kind of magic...

For parry you need experience and a good parry shield like target shield, small leather shield or at the best the buckler. Don´t learn to parry with medium shields, even the heater shield.

To block him you need endurance and some balance - poise above 40 and stance above 62. The black knights are pretty strong and can kick your endurance down with one single blow. Early game and not experienced not a good idea. Try it later..

Edit: undead burg... This is for undead parish. sorry.

But there is the same cheese. Clear the undead burg completly, take bow and arrows or magic. Kite him a long way back to near the undead merchant entrance. Wait until he is near and run down, to the right, the small corridor and to the left the other open corridor where the ladder upwards is. Climb up, stay at the roof, see the black knight and shot at him. He will run to you but can´t reach you. Fire always arrows from above if he retreat. Once in a while he will run into the building where you stand at the roof and through the open door backwards. Now he is trapped.

He can´t go back to you and you can jump down from your position to enter the building. You see him standing behind the entrance and he is stuck. Shot him unitl dead or you can even try some melee lunge attacks if you are carefull...
