Will I get banned for using visual mods?
I wanted to improve the visuals a bit with some texture and lighting mods, but I know that using mods in Dark Souls games is risky, so I was wondering if something as simple as just some visual mods would be safe, or do I still have to be careful?

I have used sweetfx and everything seems fine, did it in the prepare to die edition too, same with textures. I would say its safe but hopefully some more people can comment about it to give you more reassurance.

Some more people would be good, but it's good to know that there is at least one person that has used it. I assume you were online?

I've ran with both enemy and item randomizer through the whole thing 3 times while online. I was invaded, I did coop, etc. Never go banned. Unless I got shadow banned and don't know it, but I still get a lot of people in my world, so I doubt that's the case.

Anyways, if something that changes the game so much as that goes below their radar, I don't see why a visual mod would cause more trouble (of course it depends on what the mod actually does and how it does it). Still, take it with a grain of salt. I have read of people getting banned for mods before, but most of them were trying to spawn items into the world.

Yeh, I ain't planning on using anything quite like item spawning or anything like that. I'm just wary because I've only recently started playing Dark Souls on the PC and I know they're a bit funny with mods.

PtDE did not have any anti cheat from what I recall, not even a save file check.

DS:R and 3 don't really have shadowbans from what I know, but I'd be more careful with item randomizers. Item randomizers mess enough with the game to the point where you could get softbanned. What will definitely get you banned is mods that add new items altogether or change existing stats, so overhauls.

If you want to use visual mods like retextures, different models and stuff like that you're good. Just be careful with anything that changes actual code or external programs like SweetFX. Chances are SweetFX is fine, but I'd still be careful. If you're on nvidia just use freestyle for basic color correction or something like that.

If in doubt, always test it yourself on an alt account or just the main and be prepared to contact Bamco and ask them for an unban if needed. Ban waves occur on Tues/Wed every week.

Aight, thanks for the heads up.
