Zoom The Camera Out
With Valve wanting to get people to switch from LoL to Dota 2, this is an easy change that I think is crucial in getting people to switch. Pretty much the entire reason I do not play Dota 2 is because I can't see anything. I am using a 16x9 resolution and am zoomed out entirely but it is still way too close. The gigantic HUD doesn't help either.

In LoL, I can see much more of the lane so I can see what is going on around me much better, as well as being able to scale down the HUD. Every one of my friends who has played Dota 2 and LoL won't play Dota 2 again just because of how little they can see. I really want to try switching to Dota 2, but I simply can't because of how the camera is way too close.

I hear it is something you can get used to, but why should I / others bother suffering through an issue like that when we have LoL which doesn't have the issue? I have seen tons of potential players just not bother with Dota 2 simply because of how little you can see on your screen through the huge HUD and closer zoom. Anybody else feel that way?

It's called map awareness. It's setup that way so you constantly have to check your surroundings. And if you don't want to adapt then go back to LoL. This game ain't for you.

I believe that hud was made like that. you have to check your surroundings more often. I would say go back to league of legends it seems like this game is to much for you.

I got a 5:4 screen. I see even less then most people :(

I am fine with it :) it levels the field for people with visual impairments too. That said I do not understand why they dont implement it, would be easy enough.

i think its quite obvious that this would make ganks impossible at daytime... its not a bug its the way the game is designed

This game would benefit from more zoom out. Its using the same zoom level as war3, which was released in 2003 (over a decade ago). I find everything on my screen is too big and too much needless scroling it required... I am probably going to u3014 with 16:10 in march and it will cripple this game even more....

to be fair, it is supposed to be as close as possible, changing something that important would change the game itself a little.

I literally cannot play DOTA2 almost entirely because of how obnoxiously close the camera is. I want to switch over from League of Legends (where the camera is several times better, but still not quite zoomed out enough for me), but this is directly hindering me.
I'm sure a lot of people will argue that this makes me unskilled or will change the gameplay, but the fact is that this colonoscopy-prepped camera is actively dissuading people from playing. I doubt allowing a more reasonable level of zoom would change anything but how accessible the game is, either; people used to consulting the map will still be able to consult the map, and people fond of the current zoom level will still be able to use it.

They need to zoom the camera out. There is alrady a line of sight system in-game, so it isnt a big deal.
Close One! Apr 8, 2013 @ 10:55am
This game is based on a fairly old engine where the camera was extremely close, it doesn't need changing as it is core to the style of gameplay, you need to adjust, not the game

The closeness of the camera is definitely core to the gameplay. Zooming the camera out will barely affect the gameplay.

Zooming the camera out is a horrible idea. I was an extensive LoL player for a long time, the game is trash now and this is what i play. Yea i felt crowded at first with the camera and thought it was stupid. But i slowly started to see why it is that way, cause the game has a natural lighting system that changes from day to night, and collecting runes would be totally different too. we also have trees in this game we can run betweene unlike LoL that only has bushes. we can make alternate path ways in forests. Etc.

So pulling the camera back is a horrible idea, people just cry to much and cant love a game for what it is, i think its perfect, and it needs to stay that way, and noobs need to stay at Nooby league of legends.
