Nyx Assassin: Support or Mid carry?

I recently got into an argument with a friend about whether Nyx Assassin was a support or mid carry. I say he is a mid carry, because his mana burn burns out all of the mana, then he just ults, runs up, and owns the mid carry. My friend, on the other hand, says that he should be played as a support, because of the mana burn.

I wanted to see what the rest of the community wanted to say. Thanks!

He is semi carry but can be built into a support hero...Lets just say he is somewhere in the middle, not a hard carry like AM etc but not a hard support like say CM etc

He can be either. Like how Enchantress and Silencer can be carry or support. It's situational. Many times, someone will pick a mid with a higher priority than Nyx. Other times you will lane with a carry that would much better use the kill money.

Due to his low attack speed/attack damage Nyx is not a conventional carry and falls under Nuker. Nukers deal high damage by utilizing a chain of spells.

If by mid carry you mean semi-carry. Nyx can does relatively well around levels 6-17, where he drops off to higher HP pools, and just the general lack of Intelligence carries to kill. The 6-17 range does describe a semi carry though, and though he will not be able to meet the same end game power as other semi carries, he can do well killing off intelligence supports, but would not likely do well against anything else afterward.

On the support side, you stick him with mana boots and a dagon, and you're good to go for the next 25 minutes. Nyx does not need that much gold and while shouldn't buy the courier, is well off buying wards. He can line up kills and should probably give them away, should let a different carry take the farm, and should focus on ganking rather than farming.

I'd put Nyx as a Ganker-Nuker, emergency ward buyer if anything.

He's a carry in the same sense that BH could be a carry. They both should be focused on ganking and farming the enemy heroes instead of taking normal farm from your carries.

Nyx in general is a very bad carry as he lacks any late-game steroid skill (something like Feast or Dragon Form). Play him as a ganker/support and give up farm for the more stable late gamers on your team.

theres no such thing in dota as which lane ur hero HAVE to go or have to be, for example, alch used to be played as a hard carry, but now in toruneys, more and more team is it as a support, so is naga and etc

Though I'll admit the role of the ganker does sound very support like.
Not only that if you let the carries get the kill, you get assist instead which is very support like.
Mana burn looks very amazing against an int heavy team.
Anyone have any experience playing as Nyx? I like supporting and I certainly wouldn't mind picking a hero that could invis.

nyx is not a carry but a snowball, and can be played as a snowball mid hero or just a support in lane

Nyx still Owns at Late Game if you have the Right Item Build. With high mana and Low Cooldown Skills specially his ultimate.. his either Carry/Support

Nyx is a really good ganker, but in team fights he seems a bit left out, cause his Vendetta is for one guy only.
