Basically the early paid access invites had a bunch of cosmetic items with them, so those who bought them got the stuff or simply didn't read the store page or everywhere around the web, since everyone knew getting an invite for cheap was incredibly easy.
edit: for the ammount of fun and the time spent playing, I would gladly pay 60 euros to keep playing Dota even now.
This. Recall that the beta invites themselves were always given out for free - you could say that the package offered was really for the in-game items/bonuses, with the actual Dota 2 invite being a complementary inclusion.
