Gift/Spectator problem

I received a gift from a friend who wants me to get into DOTA 2. I received the gift email, and activated the gift from the link in the email and I get a response saying that the game has been added to my library.

Indeed I do find the game in my Library now and installed/launched it, however when I get in the game it says Spectator Client only. Am I doing something wrong?
