Can't you turrn off privacy settings?

It's sad, I know. I hope Valve provides us with their own version, at least.

The problem is that the privacy setting is set to private by default. So most people aren't gonna change it. Dotabuff can't get stats from a match if even one player has it on private.

Isn't it like they actually can get the stats, but there's no player information on account association to them (they all just show like Anonymous or something like that)?

I actually hope that it stays this way, and with private by default. Can't see why people who are into competitive Dota can complain about it. If they are commited enough to play hardcore, changing privacy settings to public can't be such a big deal.

^ they can get some stats with the WebAPI, but the data they can gather will be nowhere near as detailed as they used to get.

Again, putting your personal setting to public won't make a difference, because if even one player in a match has it on private, dotabuff can't get anything useful.

Yeah this is pretty sad. Valve should have the Privacy settings on "Public" by default. 99% of the players won't even notice and don't even care. They are just there to play the game. the 1% who are serious about the Privacy then have the option to change it to "Private".

In-game statistics is laggy and not detailed. Now I can't look my statistics, great.

tnx valve, u awesum.
That's weird actually, they should give players the option to set theirs to private or not. I personally didn't mind that mine were public...

I love how Valve is catering to CASUAL players in a COMPETITIVE game.

Does it really matter so much? Those who use the site can still turn on third party sharing.

They do, it's an added option. You are entirely free to decide whether your information is accessible by third parties or not.

I'm not an original Dota player, but I'm friends with avid ones. Dota2 will inevitably cater to the same type of player that the first did--they're nearly identical. And that type of player is "enthusiast." Closing off game data reduces anyone's incentive to participate in the community. It's a competitive game, and your data's "publicitty" in it should be opt-out. This is a very bad decision on Valve's part. Cater to the enthusiasts, keep the skill cap high, and you'll have loyal players. This is a step in the wrong direction.

Couldn't have said it better. Dotabuff was, in my opinion, very good for the community.
